Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Can't recall any clear cut chances for him today, but that was more down to the rest of the team not performing. I thought he looked better after he dropped back actually. But maybe that's the problem right there, our midfield still isn't good enough.

He looked ok, can't really judge him today, he spent most of the game supplementing the midfield. Strikers can't do much when the midfield is almost devoid of pace, vision, touch and class, the sooner Stevie gets back the better. I bet Henderson wants him back quicker than the rest of us, so he can hide on the bench.

Verdict is still out for me,hoping he is gona come good...but if im honest i cant really see what he offers us?
Big tall cf but thats it,compair him to Adebayor & who looked the free transfer & who looked the 35 million player....
Thought Adebayor looked good in the Red of a Liverpool shirt.
Wish we had gone in for him as cover

I said this in another thread but it's relevant here also. The lad is still quite raw and people have obviously no patience purely down to his price tag. On that basis I think it's imperative we get in another striker, who can play with Suarez now so Carroll can at least bide his time to gel whilst Kenny schools him into how he wants him to play.

Transfer window is closed, and we have got rid of two strikers, Ngog and Pacheco. Regardless of his price tag would you like to continue with Carroll or play a front 2 of Suarez and Kuyt?

Sure try it some more, but don't let them start together. I would rotate Suarez and Kuyt with Carroll and Bellamy.

Suarez and Kuyt have played well together, and so has the team subsequently. As things stand that should be opening pair for every game until anyone else forces their way in, Carroll and Bellamy can come on as subs as required.

I would give one of the Ressies a run at Carroll's spot - maybe shake the muppet up a bit. Sure, he has a hefty price tag on his head, but it's time he grew a pair and showed he's a man first....

Both our strikers were on a hiding to nothing today, but both gave 100%

I thought Carroll put in a good shift today tracking back, tackling and running his balls off. He had feck all service and spent most of the match in our own half so wasn't going to do much in the way of goals.

Andy & Suarez were not in the game because the team behind them were in disarray, difficult to judge Andy because there was no service. He did try to track back & defend but he is just too slow to be effective & really should not be in that position to start with.

We continue to make excuses for Carroll when, in reality, it becomes more clear that he is not up to the standard that we need to be looking for.

If we want to compete for the EPL title and be strong in the Champion's League then we need to be looking at true world class talent.

I don't give a monkey's chuff whether he cost 35 or 25 million, he's the odd man out at the moment.  Against Spurs he was simply bad. He's a ponderous, unfit, slow panzer with one track hanging off. Adebayor, same size, athletic, swift and nimble - no attribute DonkeyFeet could be accused of. He's simple not athletic enough to cope in the modern game - he should try rugby but I'm sure he's neither fit enough for that game either.

More worrying is he doesn't fit Suarez's style. Suarez needs someone equally fast and fit, equally instinctive, equally deft. He needs a Barcelona 'beautiful football' partner, not a a dray horse knackered after pulling the beer wagon all day.

Bellamy would have been more effective today alongside Suarez... provoking him, challenging him with thru balls and runs... none of which the Geordie baffoon could muster. Kuyt is a better provider, Bellamy a better finisher. Bring back N'gog. Shoot the pony tailed pretender.

I simply didn't see a player hurting by yesterday's ravaging, I didn't see a player with a response or any touch of genius to change the situation. Big Carol simply maintained her gameplan and passed into thin air when 2 men were missing. Was he ever an on-goal threat? I doubt it.  Capello was right.

Over to you Kenny.

give the lad a chance, cant do anything without the ball.   one good cross from enrique all game and he nearly got on the end of it. if we give him good service he will score goals but the midfield needs looking at first.

Like Crouch before him he is an easy target becuase of his height. But Carroll has that stupid Fu*king pony tail and the huge price tag as well.
There is no doubt he is ineffectual at the moment. I wont make excuses for someone who doesnt seem to try hard enough. The game seems to pass him by and he just doent look bothered enough for me. Maybe hes just a laid back lad who doesnt let things bother him. But he needs to realise quickly that for the reasons above, the knives are being sharpened. It will be crisis point soon if he doesnt start pulling his finger out and getting amongst them. His size and strength are there for all to see, but hes just not putting them to use properly.
The only thing I can say in his defence is that the service hes getting (or not as the case may be) is attrocious and I doubt that any forward would thrive in such an environment. We need a good shake up and hopefully ALL the players will look at this game as the turning point and when they took control of their own performances and started realising what it means to wear that red shirt.
