4 games in, how are we going? - I know it's early but.....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it has been an OK start.

Bar Enrique, the new signings are taking a bit of time to bed in to the team, which is to be expected I guess when you consider how many players have come in/out of the first 11.

As far as i'm concered we're only in 2nd gear and will improve as the weeks go by. I expect us to be in full stride by November and 3rd spot, 7 points behind the leaders.

I know it's early yet but.... do we need to buy in January? Our midfield looked tame today. Supposing Gerrard gets crocked again and Adam does too. We never really replaced Meireles.

Our midfield was woeful today without a doubt but me thinks it's the defence that's the problem. How can you feel confident playing in front of that back-line?
Carra-his days look certainly numbered
Skirtel-I dont think he should be anywhere near the team
Agger-made of glass
joey ate the frogs legs
made the swiss roll
now he's munching gladback

no way in hell we'll qualify for the Champions League with a midfield of Spearing, Adam and Henderson. no pace, creativity or imagination. people talk about giving players time to bed in and getting the team to gel but they always forget that while fans might be willing to wait, the rest of the teams won't and they will beat us like Spurs did today.

we do have a decent squad but the wrong players are in the starting 11. IMO the best 11 would look something like this:

-----------------Reina

Johnson--Coates/Carra--Kelly/Agger--Enrique

Kuyt------Gerrard---------Lucas------Downing

-------------Bellamy--Suarez

Honestly think we need to get at least another defender, another winger (someone who can play either side) and another striker. Without those I think we will struggle to better last seasons finish.

If we use Downing as a left winger and play Kuyt or Bellamy instead of Carroll we should be ok in those positions. I'm more worried about Adam and Henderson in midfield.

Coates is still an unknown for me but at least he should get a chance.

7 points out of 15.... hmmm not going so well I'm afraid

we still lack flair and creativity, Henderson isn't ready yet and he is more of a long term player

Get someone like Hazard or Jovetic in Jan

Forget Kuyt and Bellamy mate, they are both good options to have coming of the bench but are both getting on. We need to look for better quality if we are serious about 4th. IMO FSG have to spend in January. We need a new striker who is more compatible with Suarez too.

Spend more?
Kenny has already got 100 million to spend  in 6 months, which is almost as much as Rafa had for 6 years.

Today was one of the worst performances from a Liverpool side I can remember. I am really starting to worry about Carroll and Henderson bring to the table considering the money that was dished out on both. I dont see what either add to the way we play and considering that is £50m worth of talent the first doubts of the Kenny Daglish regime are starting to set in. I dont want to hear the "they need time to gel" argument either because after watching players effortlessly fit into the Spurs and Man Utd teams today that have only recently been signed I dont think it holds up very well. Hopefully a day or two of contemplation after todays embarassment will give me a more balanced view.

I just look at us today and think we need more options. Maxi is getting on and Kuyt is too. At a minimum we need another striker surely. If we are serious about 4th we need more.

It's a good point and those who previously (including myself) spouted that argument are not being helped. Although if you look at the big players for the clubs around us they are pretty much the finished article, or at least quite far along in their 'progress timeline'. Mata, Young, Aguero, Silva ect.... Henderson and Carroll are both young so I don't think you can quite compare them in the same way.

With Henderson I could see him developing but with the way we play football how does Carroll fit in? He was in Ledley Kings back pocket today in the aerial battle, hes not pacy, hes not technically gifted so doesnt move the ball around well either. I know it was a panic buy after the Torres situation and he was bought with the money we made from that deal but am I alone here in not being able to see how the big man really adds to our side? How can the team adapt to benefit him or vice versa?

Im starting to have doubts about Carroll myself. He gave the ball away at times, could have had a penalty but it would be harsh to lay into him specifically for today as quite frankly everyone including Reina was dogshite. This is another reason why I think we need another striker, someone who is compatible with Suarez.

Henderson was bought in the long term, I'm sure he will be a good player in a year or 2, but he isn't good enough to start right now. As for Carroll I thought he did ok keeping the ball and he had two good crosses at him that he couldn't get the best out of them. Plus he shifted to the right hand side when Skrtel got sent off! lol.

We still lack quality
