Well thank god for that. The man had spirit and scored a few good headers but he was never ever Liverpool material in my book. He was bought as a replacement for Sami (and a poor one at that) and was always going to be 4th choice centre back.
Now if we buy someone new either Skirtel, Agger or Carra are going to be 4th choice. I wonder who?

He wasn't bought as a replacement for Sammi, he was brought in very much to act as defensive cover.
Did a decent enough job of it.
Good luck to the fella.
If we get this Coates fella, depending on form and fitness I'd see Skrtel as 4th choice CB

He was bought immediately after Sami moved on so in effect, yes he was his replacement.
Just seen this on 365 "Top defender one of the best in the League he will be missed by Liverpool this season. Can see them conceding loads of goals without him at the heart of the defence."

I like Soto for his passion and against teams who like to smack it high into our defence he was a valuable asset. Unfortunately age and speed where against him.
Did a good job most of the time and a likeable bloke who gave his all.

In that sense, yes. He was replacement for Sami. But not Sami in his golden years. But Sami when he was 3rd or 4th choice and going downhill
