Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

He played so well in the first half, it's easy to see the quality is there.  When you're a striker, you depend on the players on your team to get you the ball in the right positions.  When our team all play bad, so will he.

Quite funny on one hand you have a go at others for speaking too soon at 'only the first game of the season' yet when it comes to making conclusions on individuals you seem to have it all worked out?

Get a fkn grip the lot of you. If you want to be worried about anything, worry about our defence.

I said that to a few lads at work today. De Gea is gonna have nightmares against Carroll

Carroll didn't play as a traditional target man yesterday, he was way more active across the pitch.  He would come deep and distribute and make runs.  The point is he wasn't static, Adam was way more static than Carroll.  if lads are popping the long balls to him, is it his fault?  It's up to the midfield and defense to build up play properly and not default to long ball stuff.  Carroll will come good.

One thing about yesterday's 1st half, Carroll and Saurez both drew the defenders away from the middle with their runs creating acres of space for Downing, Henderson, etc. but they couldn't take advantage.

I'd do the same , if he could actually run:D

Seriously, he's gotta  lot of things going for him but pace isn't one of them. Also if we're gonna feed high balls to him outside of the six yard box, we've got to get players in and around him otherwise his best attributes will be wasted as he nods down  the ball for the oppo to sweep up.

I tell ya what woof mate the thing that impressed me was that he was willing to drop back and help out and when he was clearly knackered didnt come to a complete stand still.

I think he has a bright future with us.

He is still very raw to me Carroll and has a long way to go in terms of how to use his body and find space. I think you will see him on fire on occasion but mostly we will need a lot of patience with him as he learns how to be a top footballer week in week out. When you consider hes had one full year in the Premiership and a large part of that out with a bad injury hes really not that experienced at the highest level and it does show. You can see he has all the attributes to do the job and thats what weve invested in but despite the fee he is really a rookie and even paying a £100m would not change that.

Thought he did really really well in the first half but we didn't put away our chances and it obviously cost us in the second.  Everyone was sh!te in the second half bar maybe Enrique so there shouldn't be any pointing fingers about whose fault it was or who is not good enough.

Not too convinced with Carroll for one, he doesn't have acceleration like woof said. His off the ball movement is not good yet. Maybe he was trying to do too much in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, his workrate just dropped. Didn't see enough interplay with him and Suarez. Maybe he needs to find a more effective movement off the ball like Owen.

Many fans sweep his weaknesses under the carpet and deceive themselves that he is the next Rush just because he cost that much,  he's more like the next Crouchie. He doesn't have the pace and the dribbling skills and so in my opinion, he is Liverpool's worst dud signing of all time.

Why are you so obsessed with us getting relegated?  Im starting to suspect that you may well be a Manc.

'starting to suspect...'

Mate I was suspecting aaaaages ago  :D

I'm pretty sure half of us were suspecting aaaaaages ago... That's why most of us just ignore those posts  :p

Every times it's pointed out, s/he denies it and writes one positive post about Liverpool, then back to the negative and how we suck and how the players we signed are bad and how Kenny is a horrible manager who isn't the right one to lead us to glory.  And apparently how we will get relegated as well.

[quote]

I don't think I've ever denied what I've previously posted. Like the relegation thing, I said if we lose to Arsenal we'll be down there in the relegation zone and as season progresses, we'll start moving up and will be knocking on the doors of 4th position when next May approaches. I will be proven right if we lose to Arsenal but I surely hope and pray it won't come to that. If we lose the next game, I will unfortunately be proven right and I'd love Liverpool to give me a pleasant surprise in beating Arsenal. I hope it will be this weekend.

The lousy players, I was talking about most of the ones signed by Rafa and Roy (except Meireles of course) and some are still there and are draining the club financially by drawing fat paychecks from the club every week by sitting on the bench. Not only that, they need to be sold a.s.a.p. to refund our next signing esp. in the central defence position and those dud signings are indirectly blocking Liverpool doing that. That's why so many of us have commented on getting rid of the deadwood who were lousy signings.

Scored a perfectly good goal on Saturday. My worry is his rough and tumble approach will see him lose out more often than not when a situation like Saturday occurs and defenders get the benefit of the doubt!!

I'm pretty much going to echo this sentiment. His size and approach will mean he'll get penalised for loads of silly fouls throughout the season. The contact for his goal was very slight
