Good post Scott, I do agree to an extent that a good pre-season could be a good indicator on how well you do in the season. However, in the end what matters is down to quality you have in your team, for example, if you have the strongest XI in the league then your bound to win it!
The Mancs always had a good pre-season and won the league, but they always had a poor start for the season, lets look at their first 5 games in the seasons they won the league
2007/2008
Manchester United 0-0 Reading
Portsmouth 1-1 Manchester United
Manchester City 1-0 Manchester United
Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United 1-0 Sunderland
8 points out of 15
2008/2009
Manchester United 1-1 Newcastle United
Portsmouth 0-1 Manchester United
Liverpool 2-1 Manchester United
Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United
Manchester United 2-0 Bolton Wanderers
8 points out of 15
2010/2011
Manchester United 3-0 Newcastle United
Fulham 2-2 Manchester United
Manchester United 3-0 West Ham United
Everton 3-3 Manchester United
Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool
11 points out of 15
