Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has revealed midfielder Steve Gerrard is set to return to action two weeks' earlier than previously anticipated.
The England international fractured a metatarsal in the first half of The Reds' match at Manchester United and was expected to be out for two months.
However, Gerrard is now just three weeks away from a return to action and could now be in line to play Birmingham early next month.
"Steven could be back after just six weeks and not eight, as we feared, so that is good news," revealed Benitez.
"It depends on the player and it is down to their individual pain threshold.
"Steven and Antonio are both perhaps three weeks away. Having them back in the squad will be like having two new players."
Gerrard himself is targeting an early return to the pitch and has been using technology to help speed along his recovery.
"I hope to be back earlier that people thought," said Gerrard. "I'm using a machine in my house twice a day to help my recovery."
