Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

While football is littered with half wits yer gonna get whats going on. Presently the skill in buying and selling is the seller asks for as much as possible and the buyer tries to pay as little as possible.

Other influences are how desparate is the player in leaving and how desparate is the club that wants him, with a smattering of how long has his contract to go.

There is no analysis of the players competancy as eg the ice hockey, so you end up with a big risk.

One way of changing all this is to bring in Glazer to Mancs and then you'll see some changes, ol Fergies son will be straight out as an agent and probably Fergs bungs will also dry up.
Bribery in football helps oil the wheels, the managers take it and the fans pay for it!

I am really concerned about the ability of our management. We were the only club looking at Cisse, why did we pay at least 100% too much for him.
Why didn't we hold an auction on Owen, geez we could have got more for him on Ebay, but seriously all those club's expressing an interest now would have come out and upped the ante'
Even the Muppets at Everton managed to get Newcastle to come in and push up the Rooney deal.
Our lot are left in the garage, can't get the car started !!

i thought real madrid were monitoring him aswell a few years back? any lack of interest was down to the fact that the deal to bring cisse here was agreed in principal 18 months ago.

There were stories of interest, but no club apart from LFC actually stepped up to the plate and tabled a bid.
As you also say there was plenty of time to hi-jack the Liverpool deal but no-one tried. If he was that good there surely would have been an attempt.

i do honestly believe that real madrid were seriously thinking about making a bid. it was just a handy coincidence that around the same time, ronaldo became available. if it came to a straight choice between those two, ronaldo wins every time.

Real Madrid tried to buy Cisse twice and Barcelona and Juventus had been in contact with Auxerre.

Barcelona even tried to get him on loan at the begging of the season.

All I can say is that RM, Juve' and Barc'a obviously had a better idea of his true worth and left us to pay over the odds.

Come on guys, Arsenal didnt need Owen this season, its next season that Bergkamp retires, Juventus didnt need Owen at the start of the season because Trezeguet wasnt out for 4 months then.  Owen was at the end of his contract, he was an academy graduate rather than a signing.... come on if wed sold him now we wouldve got more, but we couldnt.  We were just unlucky, I dont think it was down to bad business sense just poor luck and timing.

Star, I am afraid you are too complacent. The difference between success and failure at the highest level is just that kind of attitude. To say they were unlucky, just papers over some bad planning !!
Owen should have been placed on the Football equivalent of 'eBay' long before the rushed deal to RM.
Look from the BBC Sports page :

''Newcastle are willing to offer Michael Owen a way out of Real Madrid, but the striker says he has no intention of returning from Spain. (Sunday Mirror)''

Interest in Owen is popping up all over the place, you can't tell me that the same interest was not available when the Owen deal was cut. No, we stupidly backed ourselves into a corner by not planning for the possibility of a sale and never explored the avenue of pulling the best price !!

If Owen comes back, it will be to liverpool. I don't think he will go to Arsenal or Chelsea.

One thing is for certain, If he came back to Liverpool, our loopy lot would pay RM more to get him back than we received when we sold him !!

i say we pay repsect to our board of directors but they need a good whipping. I think that was the problem when they hired GH and accepted all of his trades and his "style". They were to lax and to soft and in the business world if you do that your just going to collapse or go bankrupt. I know none of us wants that to happen. You have to be smart and cautious but at the sametime agressive, but right now we are like a flippin pot head. we are just too laid back. If we wanted owen we would be smart about it and offer them diao and his 10 million pound contract to RM for owen :p
