£25m for a 32 year old striker who's contract had expired. :D

The summer Sale in 2002 was a pivotal moment for GH. After making the CL Quarter Finals and finishing 2nd in the Prem he goes out and buys Diouff, Daio and Cheyrou for near £20 milion.......the rest is history :(

Never thought of it that way, but that is definteley where he totally lost it. But the indications were there prior to that.
Far too many £3m/£4m purchases with 'potential' when the odd proven 'galactico' at £20m would not have gone amiss.

the main thing that annoyed me about that is that the money could have been used to purchase damian duff and nicholas anelka. :(

Not sure about the Anelka bit. But I sure as hell agree with the sentiment, one or two top class puchases would have made all the difference.

anelka's class. to score over twenty goals in a team which finished in the bottom 5 last season was exceptional. people are too quick just jump on his "mood swings" and assume he's like that all the time. personally, i couldn't give a monkeys as long as he did the business. :)

There is absolutely no doubt about the lad's ability or class. But he seems to carry a lot of disruptive baggage and the dangerous bit is his effect on the other players and team spirit.
Can't disagree with the sentiment though !
