Waldo wrote:Dirk has been (and remains) a top class professional for LFC. Maybe not the most skilled of players but he has consistently burst his balls for this football club. Anyone questioning Dirk needs their head read. He has been nothing short of top class for us for a number of years and long may that continue. I think the fact that when fit he is an automatic pick suggests that our management believe this too!

Some forget that he arrived at Anfield as an out and out striker and has been remoulded into a winger.

I agree 100% with your first 2 sentences. The 3rd, 4th and 6th however are just absurd.

I wouldn't put it to you that anyone who thinks we'll ever win a trophy with kuyt as a key player needs their "head read". Even though there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. I genuinely hope he proves me wrong as on a personal and professional level it's obvious he is a top top individual. However, he doesn't have the brain or technical ability to drive us to future successes.

His recent good form - if analysed in isolation - has been down to penalties, fluke goals and unmissable tap-ins. Long may it continue but the reality is that form is temporary, a lack of footballing ability is permanent - especially when you're in your 30s.

And please stop saying rafa, roy and the king keep picking him... All 3 managers have their flaws. 2 were sacked playing kuyt every week and all 3 picked/pick ngog over pacheco. Most telling of all, none of them won anything for "believing" in dirk kuyt's unquestionable virtues.

he seems to think Pacheco's better than N'gog purely based on N'gog's performances as well...interesting...

i'll be back when hard-working dirk wins another winners' medal (club or country) to add to the KNVB cup he won with ultrecht in 2003.

- clueless? says the person who doesn't know where to "start first"

metalhead
- read my post properly. i didn't say it was the "main" reason or even that they were sacked "for" playing kuyt every week - no need to confuse a simple sentence

Greavesie
- read my post properly. i didn't say pacheco is better that ngog. to clarify, my opinion is that it's poor management (especially when the team is not in the best form as under roy and in rafa's last season) to continually pick an under-performing player (ngog) than to give one of our best young prospects an odd sub appearance.

well by that logic lets sell gerrard aswell then, after all he's 30 years old and has spent most of the season either injured or playing to a fraction of his true ability.

honestly some fans are unbelievable. gerrard aside i've never known a guy score as many important goals for us as dirk. if he's not scoring he's slated for not contributing but now he's found some form and has scored 7 goals in a month he's still slated because they're penalties, flukes or tap ins.

you couldn't make it up.

comparing kuyt to gerrard - you couldn't make it up.

on the first page of this thread, there's a genuine debate as to who's better out of kuyt and voronin.

honestly, ok. you're right. i'm wrong. i won't be back. later.

With a player like Kuyt providing balls into the box we will never win the league. He simply cannot provide enough quality balls to the strikers to make a difference over the course of a whole season. He will certainly win the wasting good opportunities competition. Not only is Kuyt not good enough in areas that are critical for his position, other players share the blame but I single him out due to his senior position in the team.

Why was Kuyt not made into a defender, that is obviously where his skill & physical attributes are best suited.

I thought Kuyt was phenomenal against City ..he was the driving force behind our complete domination ,absolutely tireless in his running off the ball and on . A true man of the match performance completely merited for the Lad with a display of boundless energy ...
