Hopefully the reason he was given a new contract was either to make his re-sale value go up a bit to 10p or he's taking a pay cut knowing he'll only be a squad player.

I hope you're right, cause if this, so called talent, is gonna be our midfield general for years to come then we're in for more trouble. The position he plays is far too important to get wrong..it's like only having 10 players on the pitch with a kid who can only pass the ball like David Batty or commits fouls due to him being out of his depth. Now a kid might get some sympathy for a while(if it was a kickabout in the park), but this is professional football FFS...Which other top EPL team would Lucas even get a sniff at, yet alone a new contract.

Well I'm sure we wouldn't let him go on a free transfer. The Problem is, who wants to buy him? I don't see many clubs even remotely interested in him.

I see a price tag of around 6.5 million pounds.

I don't know, there are a few Pool fans on here and other sites that think he's the bee's knee's, hopefully manager's of other teams are mug enough to agree with them.

He'd sell, I'm sure he'd be salable unlike Jovanovic and Cole. In saying that we do need a squad and he'd be suitable to warm the bench for the majority of the time, he'd be ideal for that.

He may now have become accustomed to playing every week (and people wonder why we're average) and I'd wonder if he'd accept being a squad player/bench warmer or not.

I think some comments about Lucas is a bit harsh to be honest. As I've said again and again, he isn't the ''bee's nee's'' nor he is a world beater who can dominate games a lone and scores a wonder goal from time to time. He is a solid and a reliable player that every team needs, if we do get a top midfielder in the summer he would be an excellent squad player to use in case any of our top midfielders have a long term injury.

He was given a new contract because his performances warranted it. Only idiots say otherwise.

When one of the worst LFC midfielders in recent memory warrants a new contract, you know times are rough. Only an idiot would think otherwise.

Define recent.

The last 12 months he has been outstanding. Most improved player by far and arguably best player this season. You are in a very small minority if you don't see it.

In fact I'll put money on him getting the fans player of the season.

That's not saying much our whole squad has been subaverage, and he's what? Been the best of a very mediocre bunch, think broader and you'll soon see he epitomizes the adverseness of this team.

And people like you wonder why we're at a very low level, then applaud players like Lucas.

The lad's been playing for 5 years now and has a 'decent' season by his standards and everything is hunky dory.

Righto.

Not at all. I despised him in previous seasons but you can't berate a player forever based on past failings. He deserved credit where credit is due.

He has consistently been good this season, a rare moment of consistently in a disjointed team going through club turmoil.

His credit is especially deserved as his best performances have come on the few occasions we have played brilliantly. The recent victories over Chelsea and Man Utd we driven by his performances.

Lucas is like a chameleon.
It depends on whos around him and who hes playing against, how he plays in a game.
With great players around him and against the likes of chelsea or the skanks we get a decent performance from him. Against lesser opposition he brings himself to their level and blends in with them.
Thats what he did on saturday, true to form, bringing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the table.
He wasnt the only one, by the way, but when we need our senior players to step up to the mark against the likes of west brom, Lucas will always struggle due to his lack of talent.

I'll give you that, I thought he was exceptional at Chelsea but nothing else really stands out.

Oh come on SCS, "outstanding" ??

When, exactly, has he stood out?

Really, the lad may have improved a little and can probably hold his own as a squad member. But, "Outstanding"...no feckin way.
