Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

Ironically Suarez hitting the ground running wont have helpded him because its normal he will feel as if he needs to do the same. Hes only young and I agree managing him right and fan support is the key.Thing is with Carroll he still brings a lot to the team without scoring a goal but it will come, hes lethal on set plays. Also he doesnt just head the ball on, he directs his headers and thats something you dont often see. Mostly the big forwards just knock it on but he has real accuracy. Hes not fully fit but soon as he settles and is in top shape he will be a handful and a real assett make no mistake.

He'll be fine, you still can see he's severely lacking fitness and the team isn't playing to his strengths at all.  Right now we're more suited to Luis than Carroll and until next season it will remain that way.  With all that said he almost scored today if it wasn't for that clearance so he's still doing well.  He played Suarez into a lot of space quite a few times by redirecting hoofs to him.  I want him to score as soon as possible though cause I'm sure he feels a bit of pressure with Suarez doing so well.

I think the direct opposite.  I think Suarez doing well is easing the burden on Carroll.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Carroll isn't match fit so you can't expect much, but I think he looked great under the circumstances.  We say, he's great in the air and he wins the headers, but it's not just winning the headers he does, he actually puts them somewhere too.  He wins them and passes them to his mates at the same time, and that's what you need to have.

For the first time this season I've been excited about our corners. Usually I'm like, oh ya a corner this is a good.... Oh wait.... But now it's resulting in great things for us.  Carroll almost scored on one, almost assisted Kuyt on one, and what people don't realize so much is that because Carroll is so good at winning those, teams mainly focus on him.  That second corner after Kuyt narrowly missed, Kuyt almost scored a free header because nobody was watching him, they were focused on Carroll.

I do want him to play some in the friendly to be honest.  If he goes another 2 weeks with no more game time, he's no closer to being match fit.  As long as Capello doesn't push him or play him more then half the game really, I'm glad he's getting more time under his belt.

Really sick of these international breaks tho.

Think he's getting there. He was very good in the second half, I think he has really good feet for such a big lad, he will a powerhouse in the air and crush defenders once he's fully fit. With Suarez hitting top form, he can gently ease himself in, but a goal would give him plenty of confidence and he nearly got one today! So it's all going well, I hope he does get some time for England just to give him some fitness.

I think we have overpaid for a pretty ordinary striker. I hope I am proven wrong though...

in truth we looked much better once he was taken off, this was not down to him but just the fact that we did not keep hitting the long high balls in and had to start playing football.

yes he has, and the more balls that are put to his feet the more goals he will get and a better team we will look, the poor sod is living on high balls, the other teams know that and just block him all the time.

A lot of supporters said that about Crouch.

£35m is a big transfer to live up to. But consider he is only 22, the development potential is enormous.

only time will tell if Carroll is another Heskey or another Ibra.

still remembered Heskey first debut, won a penalty for us then his next most noticeable
contribution to the team was displacing Fowler and forcing his sale to Leeds,
nice guy though.

one thing from my early observation of Carroll is that he is an unselfish player and is fast for a person tat big.
But his passing, awareness and control need to improve as he lost possession quite a number of times in the game.

I think Suarez learned that quick one two's with Carroll is not gonna work, Carroll just anit quick enough for it.
If we deliver good balls to Carroll he will lay off some nice balls. But feeding him balls to run on to like we did yesterday are no good for him, he's not quick enough.

People need to stop asking if he's worth £35M really as this was an abnormal price due to unusual circumstances (Newcastle knew what we were getting for Flamingo Topez or whatever his name was plus it was the last day of the window).

I think few can question that Carroll has/will do a job for us. He is definately an improvement to the squad.

Unfortunately the price tag is something rivals will constantly use against us (except Chelski til Topez gets his :censored: into gear). A classic example was Kevin 'I play for the other team but I'm not biased' Philips criticising Carroll for having a header saved off the line, 'at £35m he should have scored that', what a tit!

I think 35 million only means something to the owners and not the fans as we did not foot the bill, fans only want good players which he is. He is young, big, strong and has talent so I am not worried about him coming good as I think it is a given. I do think we should play good passing football and let him come into it rather than feeding him only high balls which is one dimentional and easier to defend. Do that and the headers will come naturally. How him and Suarez will gel would be my only question, having seen some of the match yesterday I would say Suarez is clever enough to find a way to make that happen.

100 % agree with you on that, but he now has the chance to be worth 35mil.

The most worrying thing I have seen so far is that he traps balls worse than Kuyt and that just means he needs to work even harder in other departments. It also looked like the opposite could push him very easily off the ball and that really surprised me. Most of the time when he had players around him he was stumbleing around. From what I have seen so far we should only use his height advantage when we are close to goal. Hoofing long balls to him 20m from the penalty area just makes it to easy to defend against him and pick up the other runners.

That remark from the commentator really :censored: me off. Carrol did what he should have and got the ball on target and it was only luck for Sunderland that they had a man on the line there.
