If we don't qualify for europe next season...

We're still one of the most recognizable names in football, and any player who joins us will know immediately that millions and millions of people around the world will become his fans.

And of course we lost Torres and may lose Reina, and players like them will definitely be less inclined to join us if we're not in Europe. But as was said upthread, the new philosophy appears to be players for the future...and most of them are just going to be hungry for the chance to play for us. And the ones who really care about football will relish the chance to be a part of LFC's renaissance. And I'd rather have a team full of guys like that who improve as the years go by than a team full of Ronaldos and Torreses who might take us to a few pieces of silverware and then follow the money somewhere else after a couple of years.

i dont believe whether we play in the el or not will sway a player into signing for us or not.the pl is the most watched league in the world and far outweighs the audiences the el gets.

nesv's policies are directed towards youth and building for the future but we need to have a mix of both young and old and having the likes of the torres's and ronaldo's is integral to that.
big name players are who the younger one's aspire to be and to get the best out of them there has to be both.

we already have some youth in the ranks and i would like to see a few more real promising one's arrive, players who are currently plying their trade week in week out and not from some clubs academy.
add 2 or 3 solid proven players to that in or around 26-29 yrs old and we will be set up for many years to come and with what we already have silverware will surely follow.

While its true even the europa cup might help sway a players mind to join us. I think if NESV really went for it and gave Kenny a big budget in the summer and we went out and bought 3 or 4 great players, obviously through their agents etc and individual player would know about this. Then i think they could overlook the fact we might not be in europe for one year if they see where putting together a strong team that could get back in the CL

It is the players that wins trophies for the club first and foremonst and you can bet your **** that if most players would have a choice playing for a team playing in europe or not they would go to a team that plays in Europe.

No, sorry, they will not go on like supporters thinking that since the club being nowhere right now but won things 30 years ago is a better proposition right now.

You need top class players to compete for honours and some here honestly expect that we can attract the very best in the world with just the PL to go for?

That is delusional thinking at best...  :no

Clearly not Penguin head. How do you think Man City attract all those players?

Money plays a big part but also vision can sway any player. Especially when combined with a financial incentive.

We're a big club who are more than capable of running a domestic and european campign side by side.

As much as I long for the glory days to come back on the field, I miss intelligent posts just as much.

I agree

I hate the Europa League with a passion, the games are mostly dire affairs with poor/mediocre teams until you get to the latter stages.  I won't lose any sleep not winning it or not being in it next season.

I don't believe that any players would rule out a move to Liverpool because of one season without european football.

This is very much a temporary situation, we are improving all the time and we will be back in the CL very soon.  Just a matter of bringing in some good players in the summer and pushing out the deadwood.

Lucas, Kuyt, Skrtel, Maxi etc will make passable squad players once we bring some more quality into the first team.

Heads or tails for me..
If we are good enough to win the Europa Cup football we should be good enough for 4th or higher in the Prem and or the FA Cup.
If we cant get 4th in the Prem or win the FA Cup I cant see us winning the Europa Cup.
Plus it must be good sense to play and be seen in Europe as it will attract better players, which we need badly.
I think 4th in the Prem, FA Cup, or Europa Cup is a good stepping stone for the CL and the Premiership title.

Here's the thing.  If we are looking at buying really talented players, they will understand what we are doing at Liverpool.  They see that we will be rebuilding over the summer and even tho we may not be in Europe, we may very  well qualify for Champions league next year with their help.  We want players who understand this.  We want them to say, ya, I wanna be a part of this and I'm willing to skip Europe for a year to eventually have a chance of winning the Champions league and winning league.  These types of players are the ones who sign 5 year contracts and plan to carry them out.

We don't want people saying I won't join because there's no Europe.  If they can't wait a year, then obviously they don't feel committed enough to stay more then a year.  We want players that plan on staying for a long time, not that want to play it by ear.

The players that want to be a part of our rebuilding process will come, with or without Europe.  Those are the players we want at the club, those are the ones that will stay with us for a long time.

I'm on the fence on this topic.  Watching the Europa League games this season has been, aside from Gerrard's hat rick, like stabbing my eyeballs with a fork.  This IMO is due to the lack of depth / lack of true quality youth ready to play in the first team.  That said, I do think it will be difficult to add significant squad depth with the sort of players we are hoping to bring in without at least Europa League Football.

Having said that, I wouldn't be broken hearted if we didn't qualify for Europa league, spent money in the right areas to really strenghten the starting 11 for next season and made a real run in the Prem.  I'd go so far as to say I think if we miss out on EL, I'd guarantee we finish in the top 3.  And then, back in the Champions League, make a real run at signing some truly world class depth and poof, we are back up to where we want to be.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

You only have to look at Man City as a case in point. They are attracting top class players despite not being in the CL and not being guaranteed to qualify this season (although I think they will). The main advantage they have though is that money is no object to them and they can offer ludicrous wages.

The good thing is, I can see players who are not good enough long term for us but I don't see anyone who is here simply for a payday. You could argue Joe Cole but he's been blighted with injury which is hardly his fault.

I'd rather concentrate on a home cup than on the Europa League.

You can always attract players if you pay them good money and Liverpool sells itself. Europe is important but overplayed I think in terms of recruitment. Honestly you could be as tinpot as they come but put the money down and these lads will sign on I promise you that. Money talks at all levels and footballers like lots of it no matter whos paying it out.
