I hope the reports in the press today - Kenny and management being unhappy with Carrolls condition and demanding he goes on an intensive fitness/weight loss course - are no more than rumours.

He does have a history of being a bit hard to manage and I hope this is not the start of multiple issues.

They are going to be concerned with his condition, but the lad wil have not really done a lot in the last few months.. This will simply be part of his rehab!

Liverpool Echo 3/3/11

LIVERPOOL fans could be set for a long-awaited first glimpse of club-record signing Andy Carroll against Manchester United on Sunday.

The £35m striker, signed from Newcastle United in January, is winning his battle to be fit for the weekend’s crunch clash at Anfield, having returned to full training on Tuesday.

The Reds’ coaching staff have been impressed with the way Carroll has responded to treatment on a long-standing thigh problem, sustained whilst at Newcastle.

And while the club’s medical team is eager to ensure no unnecessary risks are taken with the club’s most expensive signing, manager Kenny Dalglish is ready to hand his new purchase a belated debut against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men on Sunday, providing he comes through the next 48 hours with no ill-effects.

The news will come as a big boost to Dalglish and his side, who will be looking to get back to winning ways against the Premier League leaders, following last weekend’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to struggling West Ham United at Upton Park.

Carroll’s last senior outing came on December 28 in Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham, but Dalglish is ready to call upon his newest acquisition against United, albeit most likely as an emergency substitute initially.
The striker, who has 11 league goals to his name this season, did not feature in Liverpool’s 2-0 reserve team win over Blackburn on Monday night, but with Nemanja Vidic suspended and Rio Ferdinand injured for United, Ferguson is likely to pair the rookie Chris Smalling with Wes Brown, and Dalglish is eager to expose any potential weaknesses to the fullest extent.

Liverpool already have fitness concerns over Daniel Agger, Raul Meireles and Fabio Aurelio, who are all expected to return to training today, and will be without Martin Kelly, who is out for at least a month with a hamstring injury.

Carroll’s return would provide a welcome tonic ahead of Sunday’s clash, as the Reds look to keep alive their faint Champions League hopes, and simultaneously put a significant dent in United’s title aspirations.

Smalling and Evans will be having a few sleepless nights with this little snippet of news :D
