THE OFFICIAL KENNY DALGLISH THREAD - Return of the King

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I appreciate Kenny's response in accepting the role of caretaker manager. He's putting his legendary status at risk because the challenges he's facing now is different from his first spell as manager where he had star players like Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Molby, McMahon, Hansen, etc at his disposal. Today the quality of most the players are far below those in the late 80s.

It will be a long hard road to recovery and the 2 defeats out of 2 games has proven it. If Kenny still has the qualities he had 20 yrs ago, I'm sure he can turn it around but with only 5 months to do it, it will be a hard. Even if Mourinho was appointed instead of Kenny last weekend, we'd probably suffered 2 defeats in 2 games as well.

Now with all the honeymoon and feel good emotions of Kenny's return gone. Let's be realistic, Lvp's current state is like a bed ridden terminal cancer patient reduced to skin and bones, waiting to die and that patient now has a world renowned cancer specialist just appointed last weekend to cure him and even if the specialist succeeds, it will take a few years of hard work from the specialist before he's up and running again.

Kenny has said we need to learn how to walk first before we run. Now we're still in the walking stage. I still hope Kenny will be given an extended contract to revive Liverpool. There are many qualified managers out there who can do it and whether they can be lured to come to Lvp or not, that's another question. But Kenny is definitely one of them.

While I’ve enjoyed seeing Kenny back, and all the memories that come with it, I’m also realist when it comes to our club’s future. Personally, I don’t think he has what it takes to move us forward over the long term. Hope I get proven wrong, but that’s my opinion.

Nesv were extremely reluctant to bring in Kenny because they knew he wanted the job long term. It’ll be like shooting Bambi if they decide to give the job to someone else in the summer. Even now, people are saying give him a 5 year contract and that’s based on a couple of press conferences and a defeat to Man Utd.

I’ll no doubt get jumped on for this, but we need some perspective and calm heads. Otherwise the YANKS OUT chants will start before we know it.

Let's just take it one step at a time. WIth Kenny now in charge, you can see the general atmosphere of the fans and players had improved. Also, the respect the players have for Kenny is very different than Roy. YOu can see how Kenny was so sincere and saying all the right thing in interviews. I'm sure he can get the best out of everyone so that we can really evaluate the talent level on the team.

Right now, we should not be worrying about a 5 years contract for Kenny as we have immediate things that we need to focus on. We need to regain the respect for this season as well as the club's reputation. Then we will worry about the other stuff during the off season. So, don't get too caught up on what other is saying right now. LFC fans are knowlegeable fans and whether a 5 years or 10 years contract is justified, we know.

Well, the reality has at last set in and Kenny has a lot of hard work to do. Like Torres, he does have the magic wand but that wand needs to be recharged for a few seasons before it works.

Kenny needs more than 5 months to get back to where we belong. Since 2007(most likely before that), the club has been declining, LFC was financially raped by those 2 conmen H&G, millions in debt, High Court cases, poor signings, ineffective manager appointed etc. All these mess will need more than 5 months to correct.

Just think, how long did it take Kenny to turn Blackburn into P.L. champions? 4 yrs. He didn't turn Blackburn into champions in 5 months, so we cannot have that kind of expectation here. In my opinion Lvp now is as low level as Blackburn was when he took over. I know Lvp fans are used to see the club winning trophies and being champions, but Kenny needs to do another Blackburn at Livepool to challenge for top spot. We need to give Kenny time to restructure the team, buy quality players like he did with buying Shearer and Sutton. He's now working with players that may not be the ones he wants as they are mostly Rafa's and Roy's players.

I hope J.Henry and co. will realise that and continue to have faith in Kenny if he still has the fire for the job like he was in 1985.

I feel bad for Kenny.  Only 4 days into the job, 2 away matches (defeats) and probably only 2 training sessions so far!

The honeymoon period is over now though and its time to start winning matches or relegation might be coming our way.

I can see improvements though.  We're passing the ball more and pressing higher up the pitch.  The fans are happy for now and hopefully we get sign a player or two soon!

Wow, didn't know we had a game last night. We lost again!! Fire Kenny :D . Seriously, I just hope NESV will not use the hiring of Kenny as an excuse of not buying anyone this month. I think the confidence level is low right now and we need to get someone who is good enough to be in any manager starting 11. By that, then we dont have to worry about fitting certain playing style.

think your are getting mislead by a few good bits of passing that we did, the stats show it was our worse passing for 3 games.

now, maybe, people will face up to just how sh!te our team is instead of making prats of themslelves by insulting the manager and posting daft pictures.

We've got Kenny back, despite the fact he's been out of the game for longer than Torres has been in it.

We better pray he hasn't lost his touch, otherwise we're going down. FACT.

I have confidence in Kenny but not in the players.

Yes I do !!! If we had Roy still in charge id bet my life on it that he would have got us relegated, the minute he arrived I said he will take us down and he is half responsible for the mess we currently find ourselves in.

you see for me it was never gona be a honeymoon period, as isaid in the match thread which i cant see there , yep were in trouble but there is no one id rather have being in our corner battling with us to get it out of it, Hes only been here a few days and i wasnt expecting him to turn some of our average players into superstars ,but what he will do is sift out anyone not up for the fight, He will sort out those who really wanna be here and those who just wanna be here for there wage packet. Hopefully John Henry will give him a few bob and he can sort it sooner ,

Roy isn't responsible for this mess, and that's something you need to accept.

Roy said some daft things, but he knew (he said it often enough) that this squad was poor. You guys wouldn't accept it. instead we hear from fans that "2 years ago we finished 2nd, blar, blar blar" b0ll0xs

Guess what, the world has moved on and so have Alonso, Masch and Hyypia.

Roy had expereince of coping with relegation battles. Kenny's got half a dozen games to turn this around or we're history. That's asking a lot from a guy who's been out of the game for so long. I hope i'm wrong, otherwise this summer everyone will leave. Including Kenny, for good.
