60 is not TOO old for a manager.  (although i know our owners like young managers).  Im sure Kenny is capable of doing the job for somewhere between 5 - 10 years IF all is going well.  Probably closer to 5 though.

It would be nice if during that time he could teach the likes of Carra how its done.  Maybe go back to the Bootroom.

Some reckoned 63 was too old...

if we get 5 years out of Kenny at least the club will be in a good state for the next man and providing the next man is the right man he'll just carry it all on. Just like the Shanks/Paisley/Fagan/Dalglish  run in the 70/80s. a new man stepped in and carried the winning formula on. dont fix what isn't broke. At the moment we are broken so Kenny will fix us.

depends on Nesv and who else they want. From my understanding, they want a younger guy and if they get their no1 taget then Kenny will be gone in 5 months.

I've no idea who their target manager is, but apparently they have someone in mind who 'might' be available in the summer.

Hiddink is in his 60's and yet I don't think anyone would have minded before if he got the job. If someone has good experience then the age doesn't really matter, where as if the person is gash as was our last manager then it becomes a problem. All depends on if FSG manage to get in someone decent.

Liverpool Echo 12 Jan 2011

KENNY DALGLISH today vowed to help Reds match-winner Fernando Torres back onto the goalscoring trail.

The Liverpool manager spoke of his admiration for the Spaniard number nine who has only scored once in two months.

And the Scot is set to use all his experience to wrestle the striker out of his current goal scoring slump.

Dalglish, who describes Torres as having a ‘magic wand’ said: “I’ve got fantastic respect for Fernando, not just as a footballer but also as a person. When he signed for the club he really threw himself into learning about its history and tradition, he really soaked himself up in it.

“I can pass on advice and I’ll try and help him in any way shape or form.”

Torres grabbed an equaliser for the Reds on New Years Day against Bolton with an assured volley that helped his side to a last-gasp win. But his previous strike came back in November during the frustrating 1-1 draw against Wigan.

Dalglish, however, is keen not to single out the Spaniard, and has issued a rallying cry to all his players ahead of tonight’s game at Blackpool.

He added: “It’s all about relationships with the players and the staff and how we get on with each other.

“I would say that about any one of the players at the club. It’s important we get as much as we possibly can from all of them, not just Fernando .... Liverpool pit themselves against Ian Holloway’s men at Bloomfield Road, both clubs four points from the relegation zone.

The Reds have a relatively clean bill of health at present, with only Jamie Carragher unavailable through injury but Glen Johnson could be out of action again because it is understood his partner is yet to give birth.

Liverpool will have to make the grade, however, without the promptings of Steven Gerrard tonight as he begins his three-match ban after his sending off at Old Trafford.

Jay Spearing made a successful return to action for the reserves yesterday after his broken ankle.

The second string edged past Sunderland 2-1 at the Academy, Dani Pacheco hammering a delightful first in front of Dalglish.

The Spaniard’s timing was perfect as the Scot had arrived just minutes earlier to check the progress of the reserves.

One transfer target that appears to be seriously interesting Liverpool during this month's transfer window is teenage starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Damien Comolli, the Reds director of football, was in the stands at Boundary Park last night, checking on the 17-year-old Southampton winger during the League One encounter against Oldham. It’s not the first time the Frenchman has run the rule over the youngster, who is the son of former England international Mark Chamberlain.

changing at the end of the season for young manager should only be an option if Kenny doesn't improve things and if that is the scenario I'll eat my crusty underwangers on youtube

How will we identify improvement? Avoiding relegation? Finishing mid table?

While I’ve enjoyed seeing Kenny back, and all the memories that come with it, I’m also realist when it comes to our club’s future. Personally, I don’t think he has what it takes to move us forward over the long term. Hope I get proven wrong, but that’s my opinion.

Nesv were extremely reluctant to bring in Kenny because they knew he wanted the job long term. It’ll be like shooting Bambi if they decide to give the job to someone else in the summer. Even now, people are saying give him a 5 year contract and that’s based on a couple of press conferences and a defeat to Man Utd.

I’ll no doubt get jumped on for this, but we need some perspective and calm heads. Otherwise the YANKS OUT chants will start before we know it.

7_kewell - watch the 'defeat to Man utd' again. the improvement was there for all to see.

Improvement could be us now going on a run of the next 15 games unbeaten.

that's not going to happen and, while we were better against, man utd, i didn't see anything to justify handing out a 5 years contract.

If our play, team and league position improve over the rest of the season in a marked manner then i'll be the first to admit i was wrong.

However, my fear is we finish mid table and fans turn on the owners when they bring in their choice of manager.

But no one (other than excited fans) are advocating such a contract.

The press conference made it clear that both Dalglish and Clarke are initially here till the summer when a decision will be made whether to continue with the setup.

If no progress is made I'm pretty sure that they will go with someone new. There again if Dalglish reinvigorates the team and starts producing results there should be no reason not to consider him (and Clarke) permanently.

Such a contract will come in to play if Kenny improves the team with what he has got and in doing so creates the confidence, already visible - that with the right signings we can be propelled to where we want to be.

What can he achieve realistically this season..

-  a top 6 finish perhaps (remember where he is starting from)
-  impove individual and team performances on the pitch, so we actually play like a team and know what to do with the ball collectively and individually
-  win the Europa League
-  look like a a ship sailing towards the horizon, not sinking and drowning in our own shi'te - looking out of sorts and donw right emabarrassing

Kenny has the capacity, knowledge and the right persons around him to make us a force to be reckoned with, this season is about improving and making thos who have failed on the pitch stand-up and be counted or f'ukc off

If he achieves noticeable and significant improvement alone, then with more new signings inthe summer, he deserves a crack it - because he knows what this club is about and he will instill that spirit in to the players and work with his tactician experts, to bring the best out of all out players.. it's called giving Leadership and Direction it's being THE MANAGER !

Exactly, I don't see a problem here. Dalglish has said he will step aside if LFC appoint a better manager so the path is clear. If Kenny really performs then he stays otherwise he goes, simples.
in any case he cannot be worse than Woy, that is just completely impossible.  :D

Instead of worrying how long the man gets to turn us around ,maybe we should just enjoy the time he is here.... Lets just give him the space he needs to work his magic ....I guarantee no one will go home disappointed  :;):
