i dont know why, but we NEVER pay top dollar for a winger. to be fair, we shelled out close to 8 million for jermaine pennant, and about 5 for harry kewell, but since then, the lack of any serious interest let alone action, in those positions have been comical.
and in the case of babel, well.. he's be considered a flop regardless of whether or not he played up front or on the wings. but we paid 11.5 regardless.
i think its about time we put an end to this awkward tradition of buying attacking midfielders or strikers, (benayoun, maxi, luis garcia, kuyt, babel) and sticking them on the flanks.
its a specialist role and specialists are needed.
i'd really like to see SWP in a red shirt.
