I think its down to workig in places with users of drugs and drink and trying to help them move in in their lives that has changed me.

did most of my drinking at 16 to 21, worked fora bit t pontins.....and ended up with a drink problem there........the problem was it was free lol

by the age of 22 did not drink much.

so should you get :censored: tonight? ???

no

if you feel the need to have a drink every night then you do have a drink problem, if you feel that a drink helps you wind down after work....you hav a drink problem...or will go onto have one.

when i was first told this i said it was bull......then i started to work with them that had been there and done it and now i know how it all starts.

after reading that think i need a drink to cheer myself up :D

you still think you are 16 dont you lol

Lads I'm 36 now, I was only jesting with ya. 20 years ago it was the drink of champions. Bottle of that sh!te and I'd either fight the world or fall asleep.  I remember me and a pal nicked a bottle of Thunderbird (blue) from Tesco's or it may have been called Hillards back then, and between me, him and a lass called Sarah we got sh!t faced. He fell over a wall into some field and instead of helping him out we left him and I went back to Sarahs house and tried to sh@g her in her dads shed.  :D

happy days

Here's a review i found online, sounds quite nice but don't think i'll be ordering it instead of a pint! (Del Boy style):

I am a great believer in eating and drinking what the locals do when I am traveling but in the case of patxaran I got it wrong. You see, I discovered this delicious liqueur when in Andalusia but it’s actually from the north of Spain, the Basque region of Navarre to be precise (hence the spelling with the letter x, in Castilian Spanish it’s spelled ‘pacharan’. In the French Pyrenees it’s also known as pacharan).

There has been a drink of this kind around since the middle ages but it was only relatively recently made commercially and, it is said, it became popular throughout Spain in general because young men took bottles with them when they went to carry out their national service. Of late paxtaran has been enjoying a surge in popularity and is becoming a real foodies’ tipple with some premium brands becoming highly sought after. Furthermore, the influx of foreign visitors to events such as the “running of the bulls” in Pamplona is introducing new drinkers to the delights of paxtaran as it is to this event what Pimms is to Wimbledon.
I had seen it in a few bars and one evening while in Conil de la Frontera I asked to try it. It was love at first slurp, so to speak and, in the days when such items could be carried in hand luggage (I was not flying direct to Newcastle from Spain), I bought a bottle to take home. Several bottles later (thanks to online shopping and indulgent relatives) I’m still a big fan.

In its commercial form this drink is called Zoco Paxtaran but many people make their own version at home. It’s basically made by soaking sloe berries in anisette along with a coffee beans and a vanilla pod. The resulting concoction is warm and aromatic, smooth enough to be drunk neat but not so gentle that you couldn’t mix it and not appreciate its distinctive flavour. In Spain it’s generally drunk as a digestif so that’s what I usually do although you can normally tempt with a glass at any time.
The colour is a reddish brown and when you hold it up to the light it looks quite syrupy. Apparently there are rules that say a true paxtaran may not have any artificial colours or flavours added to it. The brands can differ in sweetness but so far I’ve only sampled Zoco and can’t comment on any others. I would say that Zoco is only slightly sweet and its aroma rather than its sweetness is what you pick out first. It is said that Zoco, the most widespread commercial brand, is the sweetest and also has the least complex of flavours. I’d like to try others but the superior brands are expensive and I don’t feel like I can ask friends to hunt out the less common brands (Zoco is the brand most commonly found in airports though I read recently that Madrid airport now has a whole section dedicated to paxtaran, sop quickly is its popularity growing).

The fruit is macerated with the vanilla and coffee beans for anything between one and eight months. For those who don’t know, sloe berries – also known as the fruit of the blackthorn – are small berries that look very much like small damsons. The ones used in Navarra paxtaran grow wild and are picked in autumn. In Britain these berries are used to make sloe gin. In paxtaran the fruitiness of the berries is less pronounced than in sloe gin.
While some people get out a bottle of Scotch to make a hot toddy when they feel the sniffles coming on, I get out the paxtaran; because of the fruit content it’s high in vitamin C and the warmth of the drink seems to warm me from the inside. In the past it was thought to prevent strokes and atherosclerosis, an idea which I wouldn’t like to refute, so encouraging me to drink even more.

My instinct would have been to drink paxtaran with ice and I did ask for ice the first time I tried it but was persuaded by the barman to try it without. He was quite right to suggest this because if the drink is too cold it just tastes like an aniseed liqueur and you miss the coffee flavour completely. When served slightly warm, you get the slight spiciness first and the aniseed is in the background. The fruit flavour isn’t actually very pronounced but it’s there in the background, lightly fruity but slightly floral too.
Although I wouldn’t suggest that they taste similar, I would say that if you like Southern Comfort you might like paxtaran. They both have that fragrant warming taste, slightly sweet but with a gentle alcoholic aftertaste.

25-30% alcohol by volume.
If you aren’t travelling to Spain anytime soon and don’t know anyone who is, try the following websites for paxtaran
