We actually NEED a great manager. That we haven't had one for 20 years goes much of the way towards explaining our decline.

Whatever he was he was a million miles better than Roy. And he gave us the biggest trophey in club football. The closest Roy has ever been to a European cup is probably passing them at work each day.

But yes we need a great manager, easier said than done though. And we don't even have a chariman in place yet.

bav this is just about Rafa mate.. and he was found lacking in the end

Yes that's true but only under circumstances where he his hands were partly tied behind his back by the owners. He wasn't given a 'fair crack of the whip' imo.

how many years wasnt enough?

and from day one you've been screaming about our current manager

i think he got more than a fair crack, but his stubbornness and bad transfers cost us. just hope he sorts himself out at Inter coz i do want him to do well

He was a constant torn in the side to Jose and Fergie.  The media badly wanted him to fail.  Fat Sam hated him as did MON.  it was great.

And he called the Bitters a small club.  I Loved the game over signal against Blackburn as well.

mm.. The fact that all the other managers in the league hated him tells you that he was a good manager how ?!

Anyways dont bother answering.. What i wanted to comment on was the money thing you refer to in every post... Bar Man City in the last couple of years and Chelsea's 2004-2005 spending spree, Benitez managed to outspend every other premier league club during his time at Liverpool..

Did all the other managers really hate him Ace ? Or was it just the ones he beat and the ones that were part of the Ferguson crew - Bruce,Allardyce etc .

Wenger never had a bad word to say about him , Martinez came out with a good piece on him , he had his little spats with Moyes but i know on pretty good authority that away from football they got on pretty well .

The main thing thou is does it matter if no manager likes him ? most of the dislike comes from him being a success against their team .

A good quote from Rafa was about Maureen

"We used to get on very well until we started beating them more regulary then the relationship soured " said that just before the 2007 CL semi final .

Exactly Benny, Fergie only had a bone to pick with him because for the most part during his reign no Liverpool manager had threatened to crash his party.

with the emphasis on "threatened". Most managers respect if maybe not like Fergie, I doubt most would say the same about Rafa and he was disliked for his personality more than professional rivalry.

Fergie has half the managers and refs in the EPL in his pocket. They're all afraid of him.

It was mostly fergie's buddies that hated Rafa.  And obviously Jose couldn't accept that Rafa owned him in the CL.

but with respect Maureen owned Rafa in the league, anyway my point is that Rafa is a good maanger but I think he is a bit of a pr1ck in how he treats players and fellow managers, might be a nice guy outside of football though.

At one of those Manager association meetings, Martinez was the only one who had a good word to say about Rafa.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement when your Spanish chum is the only one backing you up.

What a bitter, bitter thread...... the anti-Rafas have found somewhere they can come even after he's gone to spit their hatred towards anyone who'll listen.

Sad bunch you lot and you wonder why theres no unity.

It does appear this thread has more anti Benitez visitors than members who actually supported him as our manager...even relatively new members seem to find their way to this thread despite it's situation in the most obscure areas of the forum....

you've got a point there, reg. for the sake of forum unity everyone should be pining for rafa and finding reasons to belittle hodgson in every post. its obvoious when you think about it.

no, the reason why there is fighting is exactly because of the attitude you are showing here. so what if there are some forum members that didn't like rafa's management and are glad he's gone? and even more so what if they come to this obscure corner of the forum and voice that opinion? the issues come up when people begin to insist that everyone should share their point of view.

Conversely the pro Roy's make snide remarks at those against Roy in the Roy thread then come in here and spit hate?

So either folks vent your feelings here or there, is that how it works?

Anybody "spitting hate" (I do love the terminology on here sometimes :D ) about anybody should be banned.  I haven't seen anybody doing that either about Hodgson or Benitez.
