These days the money just is NOT there. Borrow the money to go to university if you have to and then pay it back when you make decent money.

I was lucky to get free university and make a very good living now as a result of it. I'd have no problem paying back the cost (not that I will volunteer it!).

Students need to get a grip on the economy.

some people will march for anything though.. just pay the loans, get pished, pay the loans back when you can... feck is there anyone not wanting to go on strike or march for something at the moment? Weve had too much of a teddy bear state for the past few years, people have gone soft

it's not just about the loans though is it? the core issue is that the government are cutting by 40% their investment in education across the board while at the same time asking students to stump up 3 times the fee they did before. its about how much this government doesn't care about the future, about creating a sensible, sustainable and creative society. all they are looking at now is making drastic cuts to save money and conveniently laying all the blame at labour's door.

how do you think this is going to accept society? how will a kid from a working class background decide to take on 50k debt for an education and how will a kid from a middle or upper class background take the same decision? how the hell are we supposed to develop a fair and balanced society when once again the less well off are paying for the better off?

personally i'm delighted that a new generation of students has decided its time to take to the streets and show that they won't just put up with right wing bullshít

How are the less well off paying for the better off?

If anything, asking a person on low wages to pay income tax to pay for somebody else to get a degree and make (on average) more money in the future isn't fair.

People with degrees tend to make more money so why shouldn't they pay for it?

Why shouldn't a working class person, get a loan , get a degree and then when he makes good money repay the loan?

Loans are the fairest way.

We should have protests like this over fuel costs instead of sitting back and letting the government screw us with fuel duty. :angry:

you'd then have more income tax and/or cuts to the services you use.

Countries cannot spend more than they take in tax but it seems people want the services but not the tax bill.
