Everton would have coughed up 1.5 million notes for Traore back in August.

If we were really smart we would have let Graeme Souness take him off our hands for 3 million bananas (settle Taff) back in 2002!

its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

Diarra dosen't really play as a centre back, his best position is in the Didi Hammann role, maybe next season.

French central midfielder Alou Diarra is currently on a year long loan back in France with Lens whom he joined in August 2004.

Diarra became Gerard Houllier's first summer signing of 2002 when he signed a five year deal with the Reds but has only been seen once in a red shirt since.

That was in pre-season 2002 when he played 45 minutes at centre half in a pre-season friendly in Le Havre.

Since then he has been out on loan in France, first for a season at Le Havre then playing for Bastia for the whole of the 2003/04 season. With Houllier now departed it remains to be seen whether Liverpool fans will ever see Alou Diarra on these shores, but he did return to Melwood briefly for the start of pre-season training in July 2004.

Diarra couldn't break into the Bayern Munich team of all-stars but did gain experience on loan at German side Freiburg during the 2001-2002 season.

A defensive midfielder, Diarra moved to Bayern Munich from French second division side CS Louhans-Caiseaux in 2000, and appeared during the 2000/01 campaign in Bayern's third-league side.

He was called up by the French Under-20 side for the World Youth Cup in 2001 where they lost in the quarter-finals to eventual winners Argentina.

Lets be honest, he wouldn't have to be anything like the new Vierra to get a couple of starts at the mo'. When blokes like Diao can get a run, and for all his admirable effort and application the lad just isn't quite good enough, the new Oliver Daccord would be quite sufficient to gain a place on the bench at least.

You don't have to try too hard to be honest going for an obvious major possibility: he'll never be a next vieira, at least for a short while. We are no Chelski. Buying (a) new defender(s) will cost much. If he can be at least a decent reserve for our main backfour (he's currently put as a central defender in Lens and is likely to be put on the same position in the national team), then we'll be able to merely focus the buying on a well-known class defender.  That'll save considerable money.

AA the only reason I mentioned Vierra was in a whizz through the topic, Vierras name came up. I agree on all the other stuff. :;):

sure, "the next [a famous player (that you can't afford)]" has now become an idiom since introduced by Houllier
