Him coming in will be for the following manager and not for the current one John Henry likes for young players to come through and also not be old as theres no value when you sell them on something that Roy doesnt prefer.

Roy is here until the end of the season. If we finish in the top ten he will be here next season.

He might stay the season as its probably easier to find a good candidate to take over after the season.

We were too slow to get pellegrini.

Very Interesting See yer Roy !!!!

I agree (wow).

Director of Football positions are often filled prior to a new manager at other European clubs. Solely to ensure the new manager shares the ambitions and vision of the director of football.

Dont believe what lord Sugar says. Look at the players brought in. Yes, everyone mentions Bale cos he's flavour of the month. But, even the guys that havent taken prem by storm have been pretty good calls. Taarbet at QPR, he was found by Commoli and if they get into prem, then this guy can sure play.

I do think that maybe the writing is on the wall for Roy with this appointment. Only time will tell. I hope he pulls through because i like to believe in all our managers being successful.

Where does this put kenny though, i thought he was working like director of football/academy?

i'd like Kenny to scour the local talent and allow Commolli to find the global talent. Hopefully, Roy can get the team in the righht direction for a proper season next.

it is impossible you find a man for the job who has only done great transfers. all have mistakes and you have to consider that at the end of the day, a player is a human being and there are many reasons which could explain why a player who was supoused to be a good one doesn't do as good as you thought.

So is this guy responsible for all transfers/negotiations?  Will Roy still have a big say?

Obviously 100% spot on. All managers feck it up, the very best ones feck it up less often and sprinkle in plenty of absolutely top buys in order to tip the balance.

Darren Bent is a funny one. I would have thought that if Sunderland decided to sell him tomorrow, they'd get more than 16.5 million for him anyway so I can't understand the original posters point.

dunno..  £12m is the very maximum I'd be prepared to pay for Bent. he's good, but not that good. No way is he worth more than £16mil.

But Bentley more than Bent was the waster... £17mil on David "one season wonder" Bentley when they already had Lennon was terrible business

I don't know enough about this bloke to comment one way or another. Sure, he's had the hits; and sure, he's had the misses.
What I find more dysfunctional than anything, is that when we had Rafa and Paco in charge of team affairs, they had a specific vision; then we had Rodolfo Borello (is that his name ?) in charge of the youth team affairs, tasked with bring the youth team forward and ideally identifying a few lads to step up to the first team; we've also had previous managers with absolute responsibility for identifying players and signing them; we've had Rafa in charge of EVERYTHING in his last contract....

We've tried every possible combination so far.....and look where we are ! I think we're a lot more dysfuntional as a club than many believe, and this guy is the latest in the long list of 'suck it and see' approaches.

The jury is out....

Bear in mind, the owners are new to football and non US sport. Appointing Comolli is extremely smart, they've gone for a proven expert in his field with big club experience who'll provide them with a fully qualified analysis of the club current status and what needs to be done to get us back into the top four with a new team for a sustained run both doemstically and in europe.

The owners bring their own experience in sports ownership, management, assessment and statistical analysis. Who knows whether this will be relevant or bring success.

Rafa and Paco worked for owners who never tried to learn football. They thought appointing CP was the way forward, in that respect the new owners are far smarter.

We cant compare past methods and people with what we have today. Very soon we will have a completely different set up: new owners, director of football strategy, new manager and new players - and hopefully a new stadium.

The future is bright, very bright and we must support the new owners and not rush them. The decisions they make in the next 12, 24,36 months will affect the club for the next 20 years.

So far so good, I like it.
