To be honest, why on earth are Fergie and Wenger on that list?  Neither of them did anything good last season.

Arsenal won nothing and the Mancs only won a Carling Cup.  But the football world just has to love Alex right?

its like when Giggs won some player of the year award but everyone knew Gerrard was 50 times better that year.  But it had to go to Giggs cos he hadn't won it before and he had such a great career. ???

For me, the best way to identify the top managers in club football is to check the recent history of Europe's most prestigious competition, were the best managers are pitted against each other - The Champions League.

4 names stick out over the last 7 or 8 years.

1)  Carlo Ancelloti:  2 wins (2003, 2007) and 1 runner up (2005).
2)  Jose Mourinho:  2 wins (2004, 2010)  *also won a Uefa Cup in 2003 i think.
3)  Rafa Benitez:  1 win (2005) and 1 runner up (2007) *also won Uefa Cup.
4)  Alex Ferguson: 1 win (2008) and 1 runner up (2009).

These 4 names stick out to me cos they have achieved the most in the CL.

I hate these brain teaser things. I've been looking at it all morning, and every single coach who could even slightly be considered for being the best in the World right now is in there as far as I can see. Go on, put us out of our misery.

I suppose it's all acedemic anyway isn't it as the winner is fairly obvious. It does seem a little unfair though, because although it was obviously an excellent achievement for Mourinho to win Inters first European Cup for 50 years or whatever the feck it was, winning the league over there is like falling off a log for whoever is their manager isn't it? I mean, how can anyone possibly fail?

clue: he spent 40million on 2 players he hardly played  :)

as for the winner, im going for Guardiola or Mourinho.

I think he is one of the greatest managers of all time, already up there with Paisley for me.

Close to being the worst statement i have ever heard

Why? just because you don't like the person?

He has already won 5 leagues (think only 1 with Porto) in 3 different countries and won 2 European cups with two different teams (when was the last time a team like Porto won it?)

You mightn't like him, but you are wrong to say it is ridiculous to have him up there with Paisley, you may give Paisley the edge (which is fair enough) but that is all.

Mourinho is unquestionably an all time great.

I really don't get the whole Jose thing.  He's never built a great team and sustained it for years.

All he does is spends lots of money, motivates and then moves onto the next job.

He doesnt seem to love any club enough to stick around through the tough times.

which is why he'll never be a legend. Legends are remembered and forever spoken about by fans. Shanks and Paisley are legends, revered by scousers everywhere and reknowned figures in English football. Jose will never have such respect IMO, as good as he is (supposedly)

Yes but in reality didn't Paisley inherit a great team from Shanks? I'm not saying he wasn't a great manager but I would not put him in the same league as Shankley ,who built us up from a fairly ordinary, poorly run, club to be European champions and the dominant force we became for many years.
