Both Sky and BBC and a few people on other forums are saying this is our worst start to the prem for 18 years ?! Is this true as I have seen a few posts on here saying we have the same points as last season ?

We had 9 points from the first 5 games last season.

Last season we lost at Man Utd, we drew at Birmingham, we lost at Home to Arsenal, we drew at Man City and I'll charitably say we beat a newly promoted team at Home. If you add those points together, you get five. This season, we've got five. What has happened this season is that we have had a particularly difficult start, one in which it was always obvious we were going to struggle in.

Last season, at the end of it, we finished 7th. Roys task is to improve on that. This is what he will be judged upon I suppose, but to judge him after five matches is utterly ridiculous.

Why would I be happy ?! Please elaborate ? I would say I'm the totally opposite and currently very unhappy with what I am seeing - there is not one reason to be happy .

It has been the worst start for 18 years - but then again it has been the most difficult first 5 games of the season for opver 18 years!!!

Start is all relative.

Its like "worst possible start for X years"  Vs We are actually IMPROVING on last years results.  (which we are!)

The phrase  "worst possible start for X years" doesn't take into account the quality of the opposition. Its similair to the fact that Roy has become the first Liverpool manager to win his first 6 european games. - It simply doesn't take in to account the quality of the opposition.

We really need to improve on last season - and we are.

In the corresponding fixtures last season, we had 3 points. Now we have 5 points.  We are already 2 points up on last season afetr 5 tricky games. I'm not saying I'm happy / content with our points tally or our performances. I'm just saying we doing better than last year - which is good.

Yep it was a typing error which I have corrected so please tell me why I would be happy currently when I see our team so low in the league ?

Last year we didn't play west brom so we can take away the 3 points gained against them which leaves us with two which is the same as last season as we got draws against city and brum and lost against arsenal and he mancs .

SET-UP, TACTICS, FOOTBALL DISCUSSION.

NOT ROY DISCUSSION - THERES AN OFFICIAL THREAD FOR THAT.

Now someone give me their opinion as to why our 4-5-1 was well beaten by a 4-4-2 when supposedly that doesn't work anymore, and why we looked better playing 4-4-2 when supposedly Torres and Ngog can't play up top together?

The quality of their wide men mate and the ability of Rooney to drop deep and support Scholes and Fletcher to make it a 5 man midfield . When we changed we matched them in the middle and ngog coming on meant they had someone else to mark at the back which created a bit more space for Torres to use which he did .

This year we beat the team who finished 2nd in the previous season championship (west Brom)

Last year we drew with the team who finished 2nd in the previous season championship (Birmingham)

Not the same team granted, but a like for lilke comparison.

Ie This season, if we matched the results exactly from last season, but all our draws against newly promoted teams turned into wins this season, we'd have 6 more points than we did last season - so even though they are different opposition, the games against newly promoted / relegated teams have to be counted somehow - because they make a difference.

The topic is about how Roys footie is evolving why people persist on bringing up last season has nothing to do with Roys teams evolving.

If we are going to bench mark Roy on Rafa's poorest season then that speaks volumes for Roy doesnt it when his Fulham team finished 12th.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Well, I have two questions:

1. Why do we play significantly better second halves than first halves? Is Roy only a master at motivating at half time, or what?

2. Why don't players on the bench already have their boots, shin pads on? Seems a bit silly to have to wait five minutes for some footballer to lace up their boots before you can put them on.

I'd appreciate peoples thoughts on both of those questions, though granted one is a little more important than the other

:)
