I was under the impression that konchesky was coming here in a straight swap with Dalla valle?

If it's Valle plus money then it's a shit3 bit of business, fulham get a good up and coming youngster plus cash while we get an ageing left back ???? ????

His previous clubs sum him up, and frankly if you'd asked what people would think if we were going to sign him 3-4 years ago I bet most would say "no" and only a few would be indifferent.

As for the "international" line, sorry but that's a media numpty trap. "international" translates to "played for England once" but implies a bit more than there actually is to imply ie you're making it sound like he plays for England more than he does or ever did (TWICE)

For this 'empty pot' of transfer funds, we seem to have been splashing out enough

Cole - wages
Jones - £2.3m
Poulsen - £4.5m
Meireles - £11.5m
Shelvey - £1.7m
Wilson - £2m
Konchesky - something like £3m-£4m

And supposedly Woy has another target in his sights. I appreciate someone will come back with a "we've sold more than we've spent", but the bottom line is it isn't HOW MUCH we've taken in or spent, it's WHAT WE'VE WASTED IT ON - overall, it's the two or three millions here and there that add up to a big fat zero

We don't pay those sums out in bulk! Have you not heard of Amortisation?

The larger transfer fees will be paid over a fixed term, usually 3 seasons.

So you want to add past fees instead..................? By your way of 'accounting' we must still owe for Aquilani, Johnson etc....................... and of course we won't be getting the £17.5 or whatever it is for Mascherano either, some people do go to extreme lengths to fiddle figures. I'm guessing Citeh just hand over cash in brown paper bags and suitcases, but I bet you don't report them as spending 1/3 of their reported spend..........................

EDIT : and of course, as usual, someone goes right up to the point and straight past it. No matter how we pay the fee, lump sum or six billion instalments, the point is that we could spend that money where it is needed instead.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I think Koncesky is a good buy.  I'm old enough to remember the great teams of the past where we had star players backed up by solid performers.  You don't need the best players in every position as long as all positions are filled by people who can do their job. Konchesky is a good left back.

I think the team is starting to look a bit more balanced, its going to take some time before everyone settles in and start playing the way Roy wants them to, I just hope that we are in touching distance of the leaders by the time we get there
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Good post mate and that's exactly how I see it as well. Konchesky is a good solid fullback who won't let anybody down.

He's not bad in the air at all, has a lovely left peg on him, can take excellent set-pieces and is a solid in a positional sense. He's, as Bob said, miles and miles better than the likes of Dossena (and Insua IMHO) and is a signing for the here and now, which is what we need.

I've seen him play loads of times and I've never seen him have a bad game. A good pro and a good signing.

I really do like this signing, sure, he isnt going to blow everyones mind, but we do know what to expect from him, a solid performer who is consistant, I would prefer to have Konchesky over someone who we 'hope' will be a good player for us, not a masiive star, but judging by our options at left back at the minute most defo a good signing to give us more strength in required ares, which guys is what we need, we dont have a strong enough starting 11 at the minute in my eyes let alone a strong enough squad, it is however getting better in my eyes.

West Ham brought him to Upton Park 5 years ago for a fee of 1.5 million and after his very public and acrimonious fall out with Alan Curbishley in 2007 ....he then moved to Fulham for the sum of £3.25 million ....and now 3 yrears later and 3 years older at the age of 29 ,he moves to Liverpool for touching 4 million with Liverpool relinquishing two up and coming starlets ...... for me personally the move smacks of desperation and Hughes will be rubbing his grubby Welsh hands with glee at this outcome
Not good enough simple as that ....Spurs had this fella on loan twice and never seen anything in him and that was when he was at his supposed peak  ...and now all of a sudden we are expected to believe this is the very best that a club of Liverpools stature can attain
Well not me ...I'm not buying into this one ....go and spin it to someone else :(

If he turns out to be sh!t I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. I'll even go further, for 4 million quid (if that is actually what we're paying as opposed to some spin from a "can't accept he's goner"), I'll go as far as saying if he isn't really good I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. Roy's no mug, he's had this lad for a couple of seasons and he knows what he's buying. It seems to me that the lad has matured and is at his peak.

Lets see how he gets on anyway, all Liverpool fans will get behind him and hope he succeeds, lets hope he does.

well I'm usually optimistic when a manager brings players he's familiar with but £4m seems a large sum for a player of his calibre. We're screaming for a proper left back so Ill remain content with his purchase, after all, we don't exactly have someone making a really great case for the left back position
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

But has he signed yet? Is it official? I remember he is decent. But at least he didn't make me feel nervous when seeing him play. Solid but not spectacular.

Wow if it is 4 million + our 2 promising youngsters, that's a feckin rip-off. 4 million is the most you should pay for him. So are we gonna sell our whole reserve and academy players now? What the club needs is continuation not throw away the hard work done by kenny and rafa bringing in and training promising prospects. We will regret it later on. Especially if the club is not successful. We won't have money or talent...

I'm happy with Raul Meireles, i think he'll be excellent. As for Konchesky...hmmm squad player, decent left back, will do during our times of poverty. I'm hoping we get a striker too. Forget Carlton Cole though, i reckon Hodgson will be after Zamora, no? It would pretty sweet if we managed to get rid of Lucas too.
