I dont think many fans thought he was
, its just that some on here deified him as some sort of Lpool legend, which he was not.
He was possibly the biggest gamble of a signing the club/Rafa ever made, regarding his injury and in being the replacement for Alonso.
But not neccesarily the worst signing regarding his playing capabilities. But How he passed his medical, I I will never know.
I think Lpool probably would want to sack the club doctor or physio who oversaw the Aquilani transaction.
I've never thought Aquilani was a bad player, the criticism comes from the transfer fee paid and how little he was utilized. I don't think it was particularly wise to go for an Italian player with a bad injury record. If you remember the quotes from the Roma players about his transfer, it seemed that they were implying it would be the best for him and the club(Roma). They knew he wouldn't fulfill the promise he had as a youth player (names like "The Next Totti" and "Mr. Roma"). I'm sure Roma were giddy when we forked over 20 mil. for him. I don't think he was ever going to get a starting role here, and I'm not sure he's going to at Juve.
Juve have the rights to buy him @13.1 mil. or something like that at the end of the loan and we sure as hell didn't get 7 mil. of value out of him. You don't spend 20 mil. on a risk, only a sure thing.

And i will say it again, Aquilani has been sh!te.
I personally will not lose any sleep over him leaving.
Yes he is Roy liked him when he worked with him years ago, but he is a defensive midfielder and has been brought in to replace the Argentine captain and world a world class player to boot.
The issue with Aquilani is not his fitness or ability, but the fact that
we're a man light in midfield and no replacement as been brought in.
God help us if Gerrard gets injured

The money from the sale of Mascherano will be used to bring in another midfielder so we will have plenty of cover in there.
Will it f*ck!
Apparently it will
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it

Yeah but its not the full amount though is it?
(just going with the flow of being negative)
And I bet it rains when he makes his debut....

One last bit of negativity, then I'm going to stop for the weekend. . Until we are sold and our debts reduced we remain a car-crash waiting to happen. The debts are reaching levels close to the value of the club. Interest payments are somewhere between £40-100 million/y. Measures like cutting back on the wage bill, increasing ticket prices and corporate seats are papering over chasms of debt. It's unsustainable unless we are sold
That is a valid point mate, as valid as it was yesterday the day before, the month before, last year, last season and so on. I think everyone pretty well knows the score regarding our finacial situation.
However, that shouldn't prevent people from being happy with the fact the manager again has seemed to have made a very astute signing with the money available to him. If anything his signings should be applauded all that more considering the constraints he is working within.
I maybe a little premature as 'I know it's early' and all but I sincerely believe Roy will buy better and work with the very little money he has better than our previous manager did. Time will tell but that's my futuristic view on things to come.

Fair enough mate. Seems to be a good signing and I hope he settles in straight away.
