Aquilani was the WORST signing in our club's history and people are moaning he's gone?   ???

i'm not say he was the worst player in our history, but the deal transfer was.

Spending 20 million on a player who was still four months away from recovering from a career threatening injury...it was a huge gamble that didn't pay off.

Last season he was injured for large periods and then, when he did play, he was a passenger for large periods of the games. He also was scared to challenge for the ball, or be challenged.

We won't miss him, because we never noticed him while he was here.

I wouldnt say he is sh!t but he hardly set the world alight and didnt for me offer anywhere near enough.
I think its for the best that he was moved on.

Im upset that Aqua is gone on loan.  I don't think he was great but he showed glimpses of his talent.
Now we need to replace him with another creative mid.  We could of kept him and gave him a shot and used the money on other area's.

He was a bad signing. but his sale could also prove to be a bad decision.

From Wikipedia:
"Aquilani made his first Premier League start against Wolves on 26 December 2009 and received a standing ovation from the Kop when he was substituted in the 84th minute for Daniel Pacheco. Aquilani next started for Liverpool in their 2–0 win over Bolton Wanderers, where he got his second assist for Liverpool, again setting up Dirk Kuyt. He scored his first goal for Liverpool on 15 March 2010 against Portsmouth and he also assisted Fernando Torres for the fourth Liverpool goal. He was voted man of the match by the fans on Liverpool's official website. Aquilani also gained the man of the match award in his next Liverpool league start, against Fulham F.C. in a goalless draw at Anfield. In his next start for Liverpool he finished the match with three assists during a 4–0 away win against Burnley F.C. On 29 April 2010 he scored a goal against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League, cancelling out Atletico's first leg goal from Diego Forlan by scoring moments before half-time. Despite a great performance from Aquilani on the night, Liverpool eventually went out of the semi-finals on the away goal rule after Benayoun had put Liverpool 2–0 up, as Diego Forlan scored his second of the tie in exta-time to take the aggregate score to 2–2. Aquilani won the LFC Man Of The Match award again after his performance."

7 assists and two goals in 26 appearances. Thats the player I watched last season as well...

It's not just the midfield that has been downgraded over the past few years, its also attack.  Who wouldn't have wanted Crouch here the past few seasons?  The issues here are with the owners raping the club's transfer kitty.  This isn't a question of Roy or Rafa getting it right or wrong (although I agree the Aquilani transfer should have never happened) This is about funds available after transfers out.  With an impending sale there's absolutely no reason for the owners to want that money to go back into transfers.

As for Aquilani - part of the best midfield on the planet? Let's get real here, he barely played, even when fit, under Rafa.

Alonso and Mascherano both wanted out under Rafa also. In fact, directly blame Rafa for Alonso's exit.

Nice to see balance in your posts as always Ciggy

You could argue about the decline of the club if your a blind idiot.

Otherwise you should be fully aware of what's happening.

I'm not blind to the situation at all.

The lack of funds prevents our competition with the other sides. I despise it as much as any other supporter but I believe that transfer policy has not helped the situation one bit.

There was no reason for any of the following sales, they weren't forced to generate cash, they we're poor choices -

John Arne Riise AS Roma £4,000,000 01.07.2008
Peter Crouch Portsmouth £11,000,000* 11.07.2008
Xabi Alonso Real Madrid £30,000,000 05.08.2009

Xabi Alonso handed in his transfer request.

Riise couldn't use his right boot. Was becoming a liability.

Crouch wasn't prepared to sit on the bench. Moaned about lack of starts. The pecking order was as follows: Fernando Torres, Fernando Torres, and a fit Fernando Torres. I'd pick a fit Fernando Torres over a sulking, money grabbing stick insect any day of the week. No brainer.

I personally will not lose any sleep over him leaving.

Yes he is Roy liked him when he worked with him years ago, but he is a defensive midfielder and has been brought in to replace the Argentine captain and world a world class player to boot.

The issue with Aquilani is not his fitness or ability, but the fact that we're a man light in midfield and no replacement as been brought in.

God help us if Gerrard gets injured

The money from the sale of Mascherano will be used to bring in another midfielder so we will have plenty of cover in there.

Will it f*ck!

I think the coming season will back up that statement pretty well - why do you think he was bought then ?
