but we have to wait for clubs to buy first, otherwise we will end up losing players for nominal fees. You can't blame Roy for our current transfer problems I'm sure he'd love to know who's staying and who's going, then after that, how much he'll have to spend!!

And Yes their are deals to be made out there and i don't see any progress in that direction.

But, mate, surely you're aware that today might actually be the first day where we have anything approaching a 20 million pound offer on the table for Masch (from Inter)?  So, Roy's doing exactly what you're suggesting--looking to get a reasonable amount of money for a top want-away player.  As for Kuyt and Babel, at this late stage and given the fact that their departures would leave us even thinner on the ground, I think we have to be looking to hold onto them unless offers north of 10 million pounds came in for each.  Once again, letting them go for peanuts doesn't serve our needs well at all.  You suggested earlier that Roy needed to pull his finger out.  I think it's the other way around: if clubs want these players, they need to pull their fingers out and offer fair market price for them.  Otherwise, we're happy to hang onto them and make use of them in order to climb the league table (even if it means leaving the Europa League campaign in the hands of some of our fringe players).

Baddest Bob is quite right.

This is going to be a very difficult year for the reds. We're running teh squad down to save money, we've got few substitutes in case the core players get injured so we have to be careful how to position ourselves. If SG, FT, JC or Kuyt for example break a leg god forbid, it would put a massive strain on the formation.

Its not a transition year, its a lost year waiting for new owners and a new start and I admire the lads already for taking it on.

Roy's plan will be to go as far as we can in the UEFA cup playing at half speed to make money and to preserve his players. We must have a UEFA cup placing next season as a minimum objective in the league so at some stage Roy will put a team out that shouts of 'other priorities'. I guess as long as we continue winning teh 1st legs, he'll go with it.

But its going to be a horrible year.

Ok just consider this...We don't sell ,We are kicked out of the Europe league ,We are left with 3 players which have their mind set on other clubs..We Grind Torres and SG another year..We are Fcked. Team looks deflated. Only new Blood might get us going. Although i totally understand your point and agree to the logic of it i just feel we are running out of options.

Fair enough, mate.  It's going to be a challenging season whichever way it goes.  Personally, I'm both cursing the slim amount of time left in the transfer window (I always hold out hope that some exciting behind the scenes wheeling and dealing is going to happen somehow) and wishing it would just hurry up and close so we know who we have and can get on wit things.

For the record, here's my feeling about how it will shake out with the three players mentioned:

1) We will deffo sell Masch and probably for something in the neighbourhood of 20 million pounds to either Inter or Barce.  The real question will be whether Roy will get the money to invest in new players and whether he'll have time to do a deal before the window closes

2) We will deffo keep Babel, as he seems content to stay and fight for a place (see his interview on the offal posted today) and as no one seems really interested in buying him

3) We'll probably hang onto Dirk, unless Inter get very serious and offer in the vicinity of 15 million pounds.  I think Roy is being genuine when he says he wants to hang onto Kuyt and I don't think Dirk is so desperate to go that he'll down tools if required to stay (if he really wants to go at all...)

Gulacsi, Hansen, Johnson, Kelly, Skrtel, Carragher, Krygiakos, Aurelio, Cole, Spearing, Poulsen, Pacheco, Shelvey, Babel, Ngog, Eccleston,Konchesky ,Trezeguet ..... with Ngog the next to go because he cant resist the temptation of the mighty West Brom
In all probability this might be our full squad for next season :D

Only joking :D  .....that couldn't possibly be the line up ............ because Cole will definitely be on his way as well .......
In all seriousness for a game in Europe and to compete for a prestigious trophy, this line up is a fucking joke, and Rafa would have been ridiculed to high heaven if he had even suggested it ......
I knew the cheap prices at Anfield didn't exactly sit right  ???
I promised to take my Lad to all the European home games this Season, and at £15 for the both of us combined it was a refreshing change from the exorbitant prices charged for a Premier game .
So Liverpool go out of the UEFA will an undignified whimper ....
this is so wrong on so many levels its impossible to list ... Who honestly believes we will make the Top Four .....    ???
I said at the start of the season as long as we start playing passing progressive football with an end product ,then It wouldn't matter to me if we missed the Top Four as long as I could see a bit of hope for the future in our all round play .......
Well its not happening people ... Liverpool used to be in competitions for one sole purpose to  WIN
THIS LINE UP IS A HUGE INSULT TO PAYING TRAVELING FANS

I read with disbelief the posts after the Man City game ... and I tried to stay optimistic ,and not offer any form of despondency like so many others ..... but Today I am struggling badly providing anything other than the anger I feel at this once great team being reduced to this farce ...... and as far as I am concerned its simply not open to debate ,the disappointment I am feeling right now is overwhelming ...... That's all

RBG its reality check time mate.

Anyone who thinks we're gonna be top 4 is naive. Top 4 with 80 odd points means 2.1 pts per game.... this season... oh barf.......

And our marvellous travelling fans - safe your money this year, theres no point throwing good money after bad. If the owners arent willing to invest then dont waste hard earned cash.

My honest opinion mate.  :(

To echo the earlier point, Cole will indeed be key tonight.  He received the ball w/ his back to goal way too much in the first leg.  He needs to be making runs into the heart of the defense, using his quick touch to either find others in attack or space for himself.  If he plays w/ back to goal he will find little joy.  The problem in the first leg was where and how Cole was receiving the ball and I'm not sure he's going to get proper service given the assumed midfield pairing.  Oh for the days of Alonso.

???

A joke and an insult?  If Igor's source is to be believed, we have our regular keeper, our regular RB, one of our starting CBs, an able deputy CB, a promising youngster at LB, an experienced and talented campaigner at LM, one of our regular CMs (who you rate more than most), a new CM who you applauded the signing of, our regular RM, our regular ACM and our current top scorer up top as striker.  How is this line-up the travesty you make it out to be? ???
