Looking at the squad... id be very worried.  what happens if plan A doesn't work?
Im assuming plan A is to play defensively and try to nick a goal.

I am expecting it to be a tricky game and do worry about where the goals are going to come from in the squad for tonight's game. Looking at this Europa League blog on Liverpool, I have to agree that Hodgson intends to maintain the way in which he approaches the Europa League in his squad for the second-leg tie and that is a good thing. We should have enough to go through but it will be a tricky tie.

What is this BS Hodgson going on the Europa league isn't a priority??? He should state Liverpool aim is to take the a European cup and not play down the tournment, Is this what became of us - Fcking Fulham FC. Liverpool reputation in Europe should be kept be it the Champions or anyother settings and this afterall is the  only chance to win something this season. Depressing statement.

Totally agree.

Fail to progress tonight and we'll be an absolute laughing stock to all other clubs.  not to mention the affect it will have on confidence.

Possible transfer targets may also reconsider if we cant qualify.

Can't agree, TBH.  I don't think our progress or not in the European 2nd tier will have any bearing on transfers and I think Roy has got it spot on: protect our best players for the league and see how we go in Europe with some of the squad players.  If we go through and build up some momentum in the group stages we can consider giving it more focus down the road.  Alternatively, if we crash out at this stage it will cause some short term embarrassment but I think we'll do just fine without this distraction long term.  In fact, it would mean that we could jib off the stupid Sunday and Monday games that we'll be getting a steady diet of all season if we stay in the Europa League.

Bottom line, we've got a very thin squad and are reliant on handful of star players who have had their share of injury problems over the last year.  Competing in Europe as well as on the domestic front may be a bridge too far in what will undoubtedly be a rather awkward transition year.

news from TS:

Glowacki (DC) got injured on previous match against fenerbahce, which we won 3-2. Also, Umut Bulut-SC (who missed the clear chance to score against LFC) were left out of the squad as he has been the target of Toulouse. Umut will be transferred soon.

Possible first team:

                 ONUR

SERKAN-GIRAY-EGEMEN-CALE

              CEYHUN

        SELÇUK-COLMAN

YATTARA            ALANZINHO

             TEOFILO

Jaja will possibly make his debut finally, in the absence of Umut.

As i said again, if you only score 1 goal, than you almost qualify, as we are raeally poor to score. I would play Babel if i were Roy, as he is keen on counter-attack and long shots.

I hope the best playing team wins tonight.

You know what even if Roy thinks as you just explained he shouldn't be telling it - this is a poor approach to the game and allowing the players who do play an excuse to under perform.

As to the Thin squad ,so i guess he should take the finger out of his a$$ and start signing players ,Not every talented player is 10+ mil ,and not every 10+mil player is talented. Get Rid of you problematic Assets (Mash/Kuyt) and bring 3/4 other prospects ,you can also get rid off Lucas and Babel and replace them with more promising players. Players are being signed left and righ all over the place and we are yet to act in this area. The same :censored: Rafa put's us through Roy is continueing. Wake Up Roy the Season has Begun month's ago.

1) If you read Roy's comments carefully, you'll see he's been very sensible in his explanation.  He's emphasized that certain key players have picked up little knocks or are just returning to fitness and need a breather.  He's made it clear that the lads will put the effort in tonight but that the league has to be the priority so he's taken the decision to rest the likes of Torres, Gerrard and Jovanovic.  And I'm guessing that 95% of fans and players agree completely with that approach.

2) You make transfer deals sound like it's as simple as popping down to the corner store for a carton of milk.  Sure, we're trying to offload Masch and we may even be entertaining offers for the likes of Kuyt and Babel but Roy's made it clear that no one's going anywhere unless clubs meet our (quite sensible) valuations for these players.  Since we have had a sell before you buy policy for several years now that means that we can't be out buying anyone until these sales go through.

3) So, hurry up and sell I hear you saying but we'd be absolute mugs to rush through the sales of players like Masch or Kuyt at cut-rate prices.  From a business perspective these lads are valuable assets at a time when we are skint and we have to make sure we get top dollar for them, since they will need replacing.  Unfortunately good business dictates that the prospective buyers will try and draw the negotiations out for as long as possible, hoping we cave, but we cannot give in.  There's absolutely no point rushing through these sales for peanuts just so we can turn around and buy a few squad players so that we can go gung-ho for the Europa Cup.  I'd much rather Roy stand firm and push these clubs to make reasonable offers, all the while concentrating our energies on improving our position in the league.  Our long-term stability depends on league performance much more than our Europa exploits.

On Principle i agree we shouldn't be rushing to cut deal at any cost but in all fairness we are the side which is in desperate need of new players on the ground. So if we can off load Mash for 20 and Kuyt for 5-10 and Babel for 5-10 we should count are blessing. Those players are a decreasing Asset they will drop sharply in valuation the longer we wait. And Yes their are deals to be made out there and i don't see any progress in that direction.
