Investment and the future

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Thu Sep 30, 2004 3:28 pm

There's been all sorts of gossip etc about new money being brought into the club from the far east, America and even from Morgan but does anyone actually have any "inside info" as to whats actually happening?

The club is at a stage now where it knows which players needs to be replaced in order to challenge Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea and the only way to get these players is with a big chunk of cash being made available.

It concerns me to see the big 3 improving and we only seem to be making small strides forward. The big question is where is the money going to come from and how soon?

Do you think the board should continue to let news about the clubs future only trickle out or should they be telling us what is happening behind the scenes?

More sponsership is required imo.

take chelsea for example - filthy rich yet signed a deal with orange to be their official telecommunications supplier. Next time you see Rafa interviewed after a home game - look at the board behind him - barclays carlsberg and reebok, next time you see him interviewed away from home the other teams boards are covered in adverts which i'm sure companies are only too happy to pay for.

Unless we get some really big sugar daddy, i'm beginning to wonder whether spending £80-100m on a new stadium is the priority?

Surely we could look to rebuild the main stand, and maybe push the capacity up to 50/55,000, and use any remaining money to build a team that might go half the way there to filling it!

Thoughts please?

I thought it was impossible to expand Anfield? If 10.000 seats can be added it must be a better option than spending 80 million on a new ground.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

Agreed saint.. though I suppose we need to think about modern facilities .. the future etc.

Personally I like Anfield.. having a good football team is more important then the corporate dining facilities :D  but I suppose state-of- the-art facilities and stadia are moral boosting for the Players, staff and fans..

I just hope we can get the balance right :)

Morgan pulled out of his last bid, because Moores want's a large slice of the new investment as a pay-off for his share and then another slice had to be set aside for the new stadium, leaving very little for player purchases.
Morgan pulled the plug as a wake-up !
The current pair of Moores and Parry, whilst well meaning are living in the tradition of the good old family club that is fast losing contact with the current 'big business' world of football.

While we are not party to the detail I would guess the stadium deal will be funded from loans and sale of Anfield. The collatoral will be the value of the stadium and future ticket sales so its not all cash.

The budget for player buying will be funded separately as its a higher risk.

The new stadium is also about ego as lots of chairmen like to see their name on it or when they leave its a statement of their ability. Not saying that here its just that part of the chairmans role is to be looking long term and thats what he's doing while the likes of us in the forum deal with the NOW.

Anfield has always had problems with planning and is unable to expand in its present location.

Using your argument that we shouldn't build a new stadium and extending it to other clubs then they would all rather spend money on players than the buildings so there are other factors to be taken into consideration.

Without details of the finance and the returns along with the business plan it is difficult to know whether its a good deal or not.

Why should we accept a second rate ground along with a second rate team?

Redrudder (redrider)

All I can say is that if yer persist then the mod may prevent yer from posting which happened to Biffa and Kindaconfewzed but I have been allowed to post under Kindaconfused ....confusing or what.

I tend to agree with you there is a definite "culture" issue sometimes from the young oldies but heh its not for me to go there you must fight yer own battles and as they add to it I think it rather proves yer point though.

What do is allow my name to be seen when I'm online which will help with the identity issue being raised. ARe you following me around this forum or what.

Redrider aint me look at the log ins on the opening page its 2 separate peeps, his postings are far too intelligent for me.

Anyway I'm trying to place millions with the market and sort out a football club right now and don't have time to spend posting on the forum with class 2b.
