SouthCoastShankly wrote:You have to look at the match fit players. I find it hard to believe that Hodgson will start any players who have had no pre-season games or minutes. The only exception would be Reina, he didn't play in the world cup and as playing positions go, goalkeeper requires the least fitness work.

With that in mind, I would hazard a guess at

                         Reina

Johnson      Carragher      Skrtel      Kelly

              Gerrard      Lucas

Maxi                Cole               Jovanovic

                      Ngog

Subs: Cavalieri, Wilson, Aurelio, Aquilani, Shelvey, Kyrgiakos

Now with the news of Mascherano staying, if only till Inter change their minds. Maybe he will play on Sunday? I doubt it but the team would look more secure. The ideal line up (Midfield and Forward) against Arsenal would be

             Gerrard      Mascherano

Kuyt                Cole               Jovanovic

                      Torres

Well pleased  our defence has been strengthened with the return to fitness of Danny Agger .... it allows me to be a hell of a lot more optimistic in believing we can snatch this 1-0 .... Jovanovic scoring the only goal of the game after being set up by Cole :;):

Fabregas and Van Persie will be playing.

How many times have we seen this before, big doubts and then they play miraculously on match day  :glare:

With N'Gog leading the forward line i cant say im filled with confidence going into the new season, lets just pray that Torres is ready to play soon.

I seem to recall Roy saying that Masch would be in the team against Arsenal if he was still here. I'm guessing Kuyt will be fit and raring to go and will start on the right, with Cole and Jovanovic making a three. After Torres, the other question is who plays at LB: Kelly, Agger, Aurelio or Insua.

Hopefully Both of these will not start.
It would be nice if Arshavin got food poisoning late on Saturday too, as the this little fecker seems to be a right thorn in Liverpools side.

But if Fartyarse and Van Puddinglover are out, we should be in for AT LEAST a point.

1-0 maybe....... 1-1 more realistic.....Arshavin you little ????

I'm going for a comfortable home win. I think we'll have too much for Ar$enal. Cole will be magic, Jova will be solid and run at them all afternoon. If Torres plays...     3-0 to us. (Torres, Gerrard 2) . If Torres sits out...   3-0 to us. (Cole, Gerrard 2)

so, THREE NIL please

I'd be happy with any scoreline that gets us a win, but I think a draw is more likely.  That's the likely result but I think there will be plenty of unexpected results around the league in the early part of the season coming off the back of the world cup.  Does anyone see Kuyt getting on the field sunday?
