  • I have to agree with Rafa on this matter. We lack confidence when we are away, perhaps lack isn't the right word but we don't have as much confidence when we are away as we have at Anfield which is a concern.

Over the past couple of seasons we haven't been able to balance out our away and home record. Last year our home record was a disapointment while our away record was much better, and this year its vice-versa. Hopefully the players will get their confidence boosted when they are away or at the end of the season we won't have the result we were looking for.

We can't afford to lose away against the likes of Norwich,Bromich,etc... If we can beat these lower clubs at home then we should beat them when we are away. When we play big clubs I rather see us draw every game when we are away then lose. Nothing can substitute a win but a point is better than nothing against the likes of Arsenal as an example.

To me this is a pre-season of the next season [if that makes sense to you all]. What we accomplish this year will help us next year and our confidence needs to sky-rocket when we are away.

Post what you think about this matter.

I did not read that Rafa said we lack confidence, more the right mentallity which is different.

We need to give the lads team to work under and fully understand Rafa's methods.

The away form is not good, but not as bad as you may think.

We lost away to a strong Bolton side, and had a perfectly OK goal ruled offside incorrectly.

We lost at Old Trafford where the mancs were full of confidence due to the smack heads return, to two goals conceded only due to a new method the players are yet to master.

We lost to a team who where clearly brimming with confidence due to Greek triumph in the Euros, and following a poor refereeing display. (Fair enough we did not perfrom.)

Things aint as bad as you may think man.

I agreed with what he said about our mentality and I added my thoughts about our confidence which is something that he did not speek about but along the lines I understood where he was getting at.

I am not trying to critisize our players, simply just stating what I think is the problem when we play away. It may not be bad but sure as hell isn't good.

AB, dont get on the defensive all the time, it was simply a response to the article and not a critique on you.

I think the team is erratic at the moment and could surprise us at any time. The old style on European away games was to try and retain the ball and knock it around the back. I didnt see any of this so they did play like a team in transition which is difficult.

The old style was to shut up shop and defend and then counter attack with the ball to the "second floor"  (long ball to the head).

What seems clear to me, due to the mentality issue, is that there is a lack of aggression in our away games. To me our last three goals against us (at both Old Trafford and in Athens) are examples of this. We let in three goals after dead-balls; They have had way too easy access to the good finishing-opportunities; Us standing like statues while they are in for an almost unchallanged header

It is always difficult for a team when a new system is brought in (zonal defending) but the issue I see regarding our away form is that we always have a different line up away from home. Use the same forward line up that beat Norwich and Monaco and take some pressure of a defence that is trying to get used to the new system.
