The thread is about we set up etc. Doesn't anybody at all want to talk about football any more?

he has used it for years but only on set pieces,i still think this will remain but overall he will give more players a free run going forward and not restrict the whole team.

Fair enough, mate, if that's how you'd like the discussion to unfold but you're surely going to invite comparisons when you give a thread title like "Roy's Liverpool/Rafa's Liverpool"?
FWIW, I think that any discussion of player selections, tactics, use of subs etc. this season (in short, any proper football discussion) is going to invite at least an implicit comparison between Roy and Rafa. How could they not? So, to try and steer clear of the comparisons and make out like no one should be mentioning Rafa anymore is, IMHO, a non-starter.
So, can we make sensible comparisons that spur genuine footy discussion rather than dredge up all the old pro/anti animosity? Time will tell, I guess, but I think it will require more effort and tact than we've been seeing of late. Whether it's the oft-repeated 'woy' joke or the up-and-coming 'stick-on goatee' jibe there's obviously been lots of not-so-subtle efforts made to wind others up. Unless we cut that stuff out, though, we're going to have a desperately difficult time getting onto some real football debate. I hope we can, though--this thread's got loads of potential for discussion as the season unfolds.

Fair enough Bob. The stick on goatee was only in response to yet another thread going the same way as the others though. I defy anyone to read the opening post on the topic and tell me it was a wind up or trying to provoke anyone. It's utter nonsense, I simply wanted to talk about football and to give us a reference point to return to as things evolve through the season.

Completely agree Andy. It was a good footballing OP by Mick. I 'got' the point of the thread and thought it was quite interesting. Rafa favoured 4-5-1 (1 or 2 holding midfielders, a man in the 'hole' behind the lone striker) will Roy do the same? Did he do the same in our first competitive match? It merits discussion, and I agree with Mick, largely he did (although I want to watch the match properly when lfc.tv show it).
Some people didn't 'get it' immediately, fair enough but then the thread suddenly becomes about Rafa and gets completely derailed?? No real need for it and TBH Mick you got so wound up so quickly and started dangling hooks for people that you ruined your own thread. You want a footballing thread then just clarify the reason for the thread to people and respond to the football posts. No need to wind people up saying things like 'Let it go Bav' etc.
