No, the thread isn't comparing "the two", it's comparing the set up of the team. One day some of you guys will start to actually read stuff and then the forum might be better.

It's not comparing the managers, it's comparing how the team looks. Why is it so difficult to get?

Why don't you start an "I can't believe he's gone, still" thread and go in there and talk about him till your hearts content you lot? I actually tried to keep the thread 100% about football, totally keep politics out of it, and yet some of you are so obsessed with the past you are completely unable to talk about set ups, formations, players etc.

Unbelieveable really.

well, it *could* have been an interesting thread if people hadn't retreated to the trenches so quickly

Who's obsessed with the past? I was merely pointing out a quote that Roy himself made. Am I not allowed to bring it in here because it doesn't fit with your agenda? Give it a rest Mick.

Bav for the vast majority of you, an "I know it's early" thread about Figeroa is pointless, BECAUSE YOU'VE ALREADY ALL LABELLED HIM A PILE OF SH!T BEFORE HE'S EVEN ARRIVED!!!!!!

This despite the fact that I'll bet a pound to a penny on the majority who are slagging him haven't even seen him play apart from the long shot. If you had seen him play, actually watched him as opposed to looking at the screen, you'd know he was a good player.

Just because I try and talk about football, about players, formations and stuff, it makes it hard for you to take. If you don't want to talk about football, put my posts on ignore mate, quite simple really.

What  ???

It's quite simple, you talk about how the teams are set up. You talk about how compact we are or aren't compared to how we've played for the last six seasons. You talk about where we press the football and how we press it. You talk about how we defend set pieces, whether or not it's the same zonal system, whether players stick to their positions more or less rigidly, talk about how many men you do or don't commit forward. In short, you talk about football, NOT ABOUT A BLOKE WHO USED TO MANAGE US.

Fecking hell I give up I really do.

I thought you were mostly here to bitch and moan about rafa and the posters here that like him. If you were here for football you would not try to wind people up with the fake goatee etc.

Dont you ever get tired of it?

Your putting words in my mouth again. For the record I think Figueroa is a good player, solid and proven in the Premiership.

You need help mate, you really cant keep yourself from stirring this up at every chance.

Yes I heard him say this meself this morning that the ballance of the team and the players we have are all down to rafa, dont know why people are kicking off because of it  ???

And I also dont know how anyone can compare that team last night to the one that will be playing in 3 weeks time, there will only be around 3 or 4 players from that team last night that will be making regular appearances in future.

And it was only feckin Robotniki or what ever there called we played not Barca, Real Madrid or the likes.

Completely agree Andy. It was a good footballing OP by Mick. I 'got' the point of the thread and thought it was quite interesting. Rafa favoured 4-5-1 (1 or 2 holding midfielders, a man in the 'hole' behind the lone striker) will Roy do the same? Did he do the same in our first competitive match? It merits discussion, and I agree with Mick, largely he did (although I want to watch the match properly when lfc.tv show it).

Some people didn't 'get it' immediately, fair enough but then the thread suddenly becomes about Rafa and gets completely derailed? ???? No real need for it and TBH Mick you got so wound up so quickly and started dangling hooks for people that you ruined your own thread. You want a footballing thread then just clarify the reason for the thread to people and respond to the football posts. No need to wind people up saying things like 'Let it go Bav' etc.

Comfortably the best post in this thread.

I think this place is quite possibly doomed as a decent place to talk football. It's become a hotbed of veiled digs, over-reaction and incessant bickering.

Nobodies "kicking off", perish the thought.

The thread is supposed to be about how we set up going forward, are we going to be more attacking, more defensive, are we going to change the zonal system, are we going to play with two holding midfielders, one or none. It's about whether or not we are going to play 4-4-1-1 still, or perhaps play 4-4-2 or even 3-5-2. Are we still going to play Gerrard off the striker or are we going to drop him in, have players got more or less license to roam, do we press the ball as hard or as well when we haven't got it. The thread is about football, nothing more, nothing less.

Now if Roy said the balance of the squad and the way the team currently plays is down to Rafa, then fair play to him. It would be ridiculous of him to claim otherwise really, that he has changed our whole philosophy in one match, or changed the players when he obviously hasn't as they're the same ones. It's good old fashioned common sense from the manager, and nice of him to point it out.

That isn't the point of the thread though. The point of the thread (if any thread has a point) is as things crop up, as people notice subtle differences in the way we do things, it might be worthy of talking about them. I do realise that lots/nearly all people aren't interested in such things, but I am and I know there are a couple of other posters who find such stuff worthy of debate. If you aren't interested, it's all good. Of course it's true to say the players and system will be different in a few games time, that's kind of the whole point of the thread.

As for the fact that the opposition were rubbish and all that, well anybody who watched it couldn't possibly dispute it, and I'm not sure anyone did. They were sh!t. I don't see how that impacts upon this conversation though to be honest.
