Amoo! - Looks good no?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Igor Zidane » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:16 am

What we've got to remember is .This was Amoo's first team competative debut , his first european game and the rest of the team wassn't actaully filled with first team regulars . Thought he did very well meself , and martin kelly was the bogs dollox . They worked really well together in the second half . I hope roy sticks with him for the rest of pre-season and has him on the bench from the start of the season .

A kid with a bit of pace... havent seem much more of him in the 2 or 3 performances this pre-season to suggest he'll ever become anything more than a squad player...

Just to put this in perspective... ManUtd have Cleverly, Obertan... Arsenal have Wilshere.. City have Weiss...etc etc... All players in the same positions in the same age bracket... Compared to them he still has some way to go before getting to their level... Again, besides a bit of pace, he's yet to show what else bring to the side... He's 18 or so, I'd loan him out to a championship side for a season and then see how it goes from there...

I know I've already said I haven't seen the last 60mins of today's match, but I'd offer this bit of thought to criticizing his crossing, It was his debut for the first team in a match that meant something.  Butterflies may have had a bit to do with his performance.

babelian?   that's not in the dictionary! :D

I do recall another debut a few years back, where someone was outplayed by a certain David Ginola. Look where that lad is now. Amoo is just 19 and making his competitive debut. If given the faith and chances, he could turn out to be the next Gerrard-Owen kind of player. Trouble is, under Rafa, virtually no youngsters were given this sort of faith and chances (heck, some seniors also were shown the same cold treatment). Hopefully Roy will rekindle this youth coming up from the ranks tradition of old.

under Rafael this match would have been littered with Degens, Insuas and El Zhars playing in a typically awkward formation, and making way for unfit Gerrards, Kuyts and Babels with 20 minutes to go

Well done Roy for having the common sense to throw match-hungry prospects a chance to swim.

Yep this is a very positive change.  I hope Roy continues to give the youngsters a chance.  Heck, I'd even play them through the whole  tournament and the carling cup.

Bit unfair considering Rafa only ended up in the EDL once by virtue of dropping out of the Champions League and was under pressure to hang onto his job

First game in Woy's tenure and he's hardly likely to be booted out if this one went t1ts up, which of course it wasn't that likely to as the team had plenty of experience in it (Aquilani, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Jovanovic, Lucas, N'Gog) and was about four rounds earlier into the competition

Frankly a lot of people are jumping on the "playing the kids is good" bandwagon when it is unlikely any experience gained in this competition will help the team in the Premiership which won't feature a fair few of them. I can't see Woy suddenly deciding Amoo and other kids like him are deserving of starting places in the Premiership, what is more likely is we end up with a starting XI that has several players who've never played together - Johnson, Jovanovic, Cole added to the other "stars" who weren't called upon

I've only seen him against the German team we played previously but I thought he looked lively myself, Babel and lively are not two words you'd associate with one another.

I didn't think much of his performance against Kaiserslautern. Struggled to hold the ball up or make the right decisions and even though he is 19, I would expect to see a lot more footballing nous if I were to feel confident he was going to make it as a first team regular. It's his running ability that's got everyone a little excited I think, but I personally feel like I've been there and done that already. Babel's pace and powerful shot fooled me into believing he was something a bit special after I'd seen him in the Euro U20 tournament three years ago, but since then he's been running down blind alleys for fun.

Bear in mind that Kaiserslautern was early in pre-season terms. I know from my meagre time in county league football that a week can be enormous in terms of fitness levels and sharpness.

His performance last night wasn't amazing but it showed potential. The fact that he is showing potential early on is promising, hopefully Hodgson will decide to keep the League cup for all the youngsters. And possibly provide more opportunities to the good ones off the bench.

You clearly missed the point of the post by miles.

The point was not playing them in the Europa League, it was playing a young, energetic and enthusiastic side in a game where first team seniors weren't available.

Like it has been said before, Rafa would of persisted with players who we all want out (Insua, Degen, El Zhar, etc)

I would not get too excited yet. There are plenty of fast players with no endproduct, and it was hardly quality opposition.
We should send him on loan as its unlikely he will play much this season.

The kid is very lightning quick but raw, has loads of energy and not afraid to take people on. Some of his crossing was awful though and I can't see any way that he could make a breakthrough this year.

In many ways, he's a foreign version of Theo Walcott.
