no one is un-dropable

Next you will tell us that you have followed Per Mertesacker from his Hannover days  .

Behave you fruit.

If we can get Skrtel back to how he was in the 2008-2009 season all the thought of another CB will be forgotten. Oh, please shut up, you back jack up in substance when you try to put an argument forward. Fool.

Van der Vaart ready to join Chelsea or Liverpool

By Soccernet staff

July 25, 2010

Rafael van der Vaart has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Premier League clubs ahead of the new season.

Van der Vaart has made just 31 league starts in two seasons at Real Madrid, and while 12 months ago he was prepared to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu he now wants to be playing week-in, week-out.

After losing his place in the Netherlands team due to injury after the group stage - he did not feature against Slovakia or Brazil but did come off the bench in both the semi-final and final - he knows he must return to top form at club level.

With Jose Mourinho likely to ring the changes over the next month, Van der Vaart is prepared to move on.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "I have heard of the interest from Liverpool and Chelsea - and that is very flattering. If either of them were willing to offer me first-team football, I will be honest that it would be very hard for me to not listen to what they had to say.

"I think I have the relationship with Madrid where they understand my position and would let me hold talks. I expect the majority of transfers to be concluded in the next two weeks, and if Chelsea or Liverpool wanted to talk with me I would at the very least listen to what they have to say.

"They are both giants, and if they could offer first-team football it may prove impossible to turn down. Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in the world and I am happy here and also in Spain, but I am at the age where I have to be playing first-team football.

"I am getting to the point where I will be hitting my peak years and I need to spend those years at a club where I will be playing regularly. The boss knows how much he plans to use me, and if he is willing to listen to offers for me. I wouldn't be willing to play for any clubs in Spain out of respect for Madrid, so in my eyes the only other place to go would be the Premier League.

"It's the only league that competes with the standard of La Liga."

I think he'd be a great buy, for a relitively mild sum as well. Obviously looking about, think Chelsea would back off they have enough players in and around his area, so i'd think we'd be unchallenged. Thoughts?
If you can't amaze people with your intelligence, try confusing them with your :censored: :)

Interesting bit... If we get him we'll almost certainly be playing a diamond formation not too dissimilar to the one Chelsea played last season... Would rather we focused on improving the other areas of the squad that need more urgent addressing first though..

we still lack anyone who can naturally play out wide in a 4-4-2 imo. even jovanovic is used to playing mainly in a 3 pronged attack.

The squad is seriously imbalanced with too many players in certain positions and a worrying lack of numbers in others.

                                 Reina
                               Cavalieri
                                Gulacsi

Johnson        Carragher        Agger        ??
Kelly               Skrtel         Wilson      ??
                    Kyrgiakos       Ayala

                 Mascherano        Lucas
                         ??              ??

            Kuyt            Gerrard            J Cole
         Rodriguez     Aquilani          Jovanovic
                               Pacheco

                               Torres
                                Babel
                                 Ngog

If Insua leaves we will have no leftbacks. I doubt Robinson is ready to be part of the first team squad so quite simply we need to buy 2 left backs.

We have too many centre backs at the club who are too good to be playing in the reserves, 6 in total. I would probably sell Skrtel to raise funds, let Ayala go out on loan and go with Carragher, Agger, Kyrgiakos and Wilson for next season.

Along with leftback, central midfield is the biggest problem we have. We actually only have 2 out and out central midfield players, one that desperately wants to leave and one that isn't good enough to be in our best 11 if we want to move foward, Lucus. Presuming that Mascherano leaves, I would hang onto Lucus and spend the majority of any money available on a new central midfield pairing. I would love to see Steven Defour at the club and Lucus could provide cover for him. But we would still need to sign at least one more central midfielder to sit deeper, possibly two if no one in the reserves is good enough to cover. Spearing is not even close to being good enough and we don't know too much about Shelvey and Palsson but maybe they could fill the 4th midfield spot.

I don't think Aquilani can really play central midfield and I just don't think he will make the grade with us regardless of where he plays. If we can get a large chunk of our money back I think we should sell. In terms of the 4 attacking positions, it would just be a case of one in and one out in order to improve the quality. If we could get rid of Babel and bring in a decent forward with the money that would be great.

So working on us using some sort of variation of 4-2-3-1 as our many system, the necessities are:

Out: Insua, Skrtel, Mascherano, Aquilani
In: leftback x2, central midfielder x2

Anything else would be a case of replacing an exiting player with someone better.

Heard the Insua deal has fallen through so that would be one left back. Fabio could also sign pay to play. Young? I hope not, but who knows! And of course Figuroa. Could be a few interesting weeks ahead of us.

If you look behind Torres you can see two ghastly names so for me another striker is second only to LB in terms of priority. Not only would it give us cover for Torres it allows us to move Gerrard back to a conventional midfield role - my preference whatever the case. If Masch leaves then signing one other well-rounded midfielder will be essential, another to replace Lucas would be preferable, but our season probably won't depend on it as we'll be reasonably well covered in the middle.

               (e.g.)   Defour       Gerrard
                         (Lucas)      (Aquilani)

                                   Cole
      Kuyt             (Pacheco/Aquilani)      Jovanovic
   (Maxi/Pacheco)                             (Babel/Cole/Pacheco)
                                  Torres
                                (New striker)
                                (And another)

firstly i disagree with the formation as i really would like to see us get back to 2 up front but anyhow, i do agree with the main point that there's too many players in the same positions.

OUT - Mash, Maxi, Insua, Diego, Skrtel, Degen, Itandge, Plessis

IN - Turan, Bellamy, Salcido, Chivu

we could get a proper right winger who can actually contribute on a more regular basis in terms of goals and assists. that's where Arda Turan would be nice. Skrtel and Degen wouldnt be big losses as we've got Wilson, Kelly, Ayala and Mavinga in the youth set-up. Besides, Skrtel seems to have gone down the Sissoko Road while Degen was signed to keep the physios busy.

Bellamy would be a great signing too. always loved his passion and never say die attitude. he would be a big loss to City if they think egomaniacs such as Adebayor would be able to deliver the goods during troubled times. Also, for the leftback role....we've been linked to Figueroa and Salcido, the latter im familiar with but the former i have no clue on him. should we fail, Christian Chivu would be sensational :D

i reckon a replacement for Mash is not exactly important as Lucas can do the job there and there's always the possibility of a Gerrard/Aquilani central pairing with 2 wingers and 2 strikers.

It was a sad day for me when Bellamy left. I'm quite sure he is going to struggle to get in the City team this season. Would have him back in a heartbeat, but I thought Redknapp wanted him at Spurs.

Talking of Spurs, I would love Crouch or Keane back as well, but I doubt that will happen.
