Young Liverpool striker Krisztian Nemeth could be facing an uphill battle to break into new boss Roy Hodgson’s first team plans this season – but remains hopeful of succeeding at Anfield.

The 21-year-old Hungarian, who has returned to the club for pre-season training at Melwood after spending the whole of last season on loan at Greek outfit AEK Athens, has been left out of the Reds' squad which jetted out to Switzerland and Austria yesterday.

Reports this week have claimed that Italian side Lecce have tabled a £2million bid for Nemeth's services.

But his agent, Tibor Pataky, told the ECHO that the ex-MTK Budapest forward is still eager to prove himself at Liverpool, but admitted the option of another season out on loan was one he would consider.

"Krisztian has a very clear opinion; he wants to stay as a Liverpool player, and his wish is to be successful as a Liverpool player, if Liverpool will give him a chance to fight," said Pataky.

"For now he is back at Melwood, he is working hard and looking forward. If he feels he will get a chance to make the jump into the first team, he will do everything he can to do so. But if not, then he is happy to go for maybe half a season to another club on loan."

Nemeth made 17 appearances, scoring three times, for AEK last season. Reports have suggested the Greek club are keen on extending their deal with him, while a host of Serie A clubs are also said to be circulating.

But Pataky says the striker's future will be decided first by Liverpool, with youngster then assessing his options.

"There have been no discussions with Roy Hodgson yet, but we know a lot about the philosophy of the manager from (Hungarian Fulham player) Zoltan Gera," he said.

"But we must stress, first it is for Liverpool FC to decide on Krisztian's future.

"He has complete faith in the club. If they want him to return to AEK, then we will think about it. If they want him to go to one of the Italian clubs who are showing an interest, then we will think about it.

"He trusts himself of course, but he is also realistic. If Liverpool say he can fight for a first team place, then he will do so. If not, he will respect their decisions."

Having helped the Reds' reserve team to championship glory in 2007-08, and now proven himself in a top-level of European football, Nemeth is clearly developing fast.

He starred for Hungary's under-20 side at last summer's World Cup in Egypt, and in May made his senior debut for the national team against Germany in Budapest. And with Euro 2012 qualifiers approaching, the Gyor-born forward has an added incentive to perform this season.

"Of course the Hungarian national team is very important to him," says Pataky.

"He will now fight for a place in the squad for the Euro 2012 qualification matches."

I don't think anything will be announced/decided about either until such time as Hodgson has been given some time to see both these guys in training. Not sure about his history with young talent development but he may, like many of us, see Pacheco as a potential superstar and include him in his 1st team plans for the 2010/11 season. OK he is only a kid but Fabregas was a similar age when he broke into the Arsenal team!!

If he can't make an understrength squad then it doesn't bode well. Maybe Woy doesn't want to cup tie him.................

loan our little wonderkid away from a depleted squad and a new manager who hasn't had a chance to properly see him in action yet?

Must be Jokin  :p

Exactly what we should be doing... All jokes aside...

He's not ready for first team football yet and needs to improve the mental and physical sides of his game... With regular playing experience at a decent level he'd improve much faster than he would as a Liverpool reserves player who gets 3 or 4 appearances all season...

Realistically, he'll be competing with Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Babel Maxi, Kuyt, Gerrard, Aquilani, and perhaps even Shelvey and some other youngsters for 3  attacking midfielder spots..

Having 7 players who are currently better/more established than him is going to be tough for him... Loan him out for a season then see how it goes from there... Top goalscorer in an u19 tournament or not, hes not ready yet...

Not sure Roy will have all those options come the end of the transfer window.

Not sure Roy will want to keep hold of Babel (don't see him fitting into his way of play), Kuyt is linked with Inter and Maxi looks like he is on the move.

Maybe there is a place for Pacheco as an attacking MF option   :idea

While in the San Sebastian local press there is much expectations about bringing Pacheco, and they even make the lad an interview in which he says a loan to Real Sociedad would captivate him, I don't think it will happen.

I don't think it will happen because Liverpool won't want that.

From the interview, the most relevant message you can get is that the lad is well happy at Liverpool, but he's in total desire of having first team football.

Perhaps the lad needs what you say a voice in the ear, or a tap in the shoulder or something. Because both in this interview and the last one after the two goals, he's talking about needing morale, needing confidence.

That is, Roy Hodgson should talk with him as soon as the european competition ends to reassure the lad.

I actually watched him the other day against England in that under 19 thing and was quite impressed. Mind you, Spain were that good I think I could have played for them and looked like a World Class holding midfielder (I wouldn't have had to hold anything).

He gives it the eyes all the time and has the look of a skinny Peter Beardsley (who's died his har black and got better looking) to me, and although he's paceless he does have lovely touch and good awareness. I don't know if he always plays down the left but to me he looks right footed, and overall I was impressed.

I actually would loan him out, because although he obviously has talent he needs to beef up and wise up a bit. Better than I thought he was though I must admit.

They are, but if you added them together you wouldn't get a Premiership footballer out of them at the moment in my view.
