Alex Higgins has died.

Snookers first superstar, a player that Steve Davis said years ago was Snookers only genius.

Personally, I rate him as snookers George Best - extremely gifted but could have achieved more and didn't make the most of his talents, let drink ruin him and not that good a man.

He probably did more for snooker than anyone else though via his popularity.

my god, i knew he'd been ill but seeing that interview and some of the recent photos of him i was genuinely shocked. a reminder of the day when it was ok to be an individual, a character, and even a bit of a b'astard in sport. one of the all time greats. RIP alex. :(
