Anger as Liverpool FC raise Anfield match ticket prices by 15% for big games

Jul 20 2010 by Ben Schofield, Liverpool Echo

A statement on the club’s website said: “Liverpool Football Club have today confirmed ticket prices for the forthcoming 2010-11 Barclays Premier League campaign.

“Liverpool’s 19 home league matches have been divided into three pricing categories to reflect demand for tickets amongst supporters.”

The announcement follows a 7% hike in the cost of season tickets for Anfield.

In June the club said Kop tickets were being pushed up to £680, and Anfield Road, Centenary and Main Stands peaking at £722 or £732 respectively.

And Reds who wanted to buy tickets by post, phone or by visiting the club were stung with a £52 admin fee.

Supporter union Spirit of Shankly spokesman James McKenna said today: “They’ve done it to earn more money for the football club because we’ve got massive debts and we’re making losses.

“I would imagine a lot of fans are going to be asking questions about how they can justify it. There’s quite a lot of anger already about it.

“There’s a lot of people questioning whether they will be going to Anfield considering the prices. I think the terraces could certainly be affected.”

Category B matches, which include home ties against Aston Villa and Newcastle United, will cost £39 in the Kop and £41 elsewhere. All other matches will cost £37 for Kop tickets and £39 everywhere else.

- 15 fookin percent!!!!! Remember when this was a club with an essentially working class support and a fanbase that has literally carried the team across the line time after time. Talk about following up a day of brilliant news with the :censored:. :veryangry  :no  :veryangry

It's one thing getting rinsed for £42/43 quid at the likes of Chelsea or Fulham but at your own ground as well.

Bas...t...a...r...d...s.

Still, am sure they'll put the price back down if we make it back into the Champions League next season.

Ticket prices at all the other big clubs are higher... Dissapointing as it is, its just aother way of staying competitive financially...
Simple supply and demand, so way always going to happen sooner or later...

Lad who works here is a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge, and has a ticket for his boy as well. I can't remember how much it is although he did tell me, but I remember thinking "feck that" and I think it was more than the figures quoted here.

That's not to say the numbers here aren't a huge amount of money because they are. How the feck people who've got a couple of kids afford it I'm fecked if I know. Even those who do afford it every year must obviously have to make other sacrifices in order to make it work. I take my lad to the occasional game down here when there's tickets kicking about, and by the time you've got there, got ripped off for a burger and a couple of cans, it's a nice few quid. I can take both our kids and me and the missus to say Chessington all day for less, including grub (although that is admittedly with the 2 for 1's that are like confetti). I can take the kids to Oliver at the Palladium or wherever it is for less, or we can go to the movies three times, or ten pin bowling a couple of times.

It's a good job we all love our football, because the people that run it take the p!ss.

I have been a season ticket holder for 25 years, but recently as I have missed a few evening games (my son is disabled), it does reduce the cost of my ticket as I sell some games back to the club as it were.

The real expense for me is the cup games, which really puts the overall cost up over the course of the season, petrol money too.
However, if you don't go to the cup games you don't get a ticket for the latter stages should the team be successful, so it's catch 22 - after all you go to the games to see your team win something.

I mean it is nearly £2 for a coke inside the ground now - not that I ever buy any snacks from there.

Gonna have to get my priorities right this season i think . Your looking at 50 notes before you evem start . The matchday programme has gone up from £3 to £5. If i wanna take my lad with me ,it's going to be £70 just for tickets ffs . Your looking at atlest £100 per game . Can't feckin justify that . Going to have to be selective  i reckon . Anyway there will be more chance of getting tickets for matches if anyone on here is interested.

It's a joke but hardly surprising. I've been preparing myself for the worst all summer.

Also, how the hell are Newcastle and West Ham "category b" games? ???

Well I may get shot down for saying it, but it could have been worse. I'm not saying it is a piddling increase, but it could have been 20%, 25% or even worse.

I'm not so convinced it will be put back down if we get back into the Champions League, I reckon they'd not even consider lowering prices until supply exceeds demand ie empty seats force them to
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Anyone who doesnt buy food and drink in the ground is depriving the club of much needed revenue

if capacity of stadium * with the increasing ticket would be

centenary, 11762 * £722 = £8,492,164
anfield road, 9074 *£722 = £6,551,428
kop, 12409 *  £680 = £8,438,120
main, 12277* £732 = £8,986,764

total £32,468,476 about £32.4 milion....:D

Fulham was like £49/50 last year. Even West Ham are around the same!

Anyway I paid £47 for Arsenal. Think that was with booking fee.
