We wont miss Benayoun as a player but the lad is just putting the record straight so we know the exact reason he wanted away from the club. By the looks he would have stayed on had he known Benitez was going to be fired but thats football and hes landed himself a great move anyways. Rafa had such fantastic support from certain sections but whether people like it or not this article sheds some light as to why players looked out of sorts last year culminating in a disastrous campaign for the football club.

I always liked seeing Yossi starting games and never understood why he was overlooked for players of lesser talent. The fact he didn't get on with Rafa goes some way to explaining this. One might hazzard a guess that a similar attitude existed between Rafa and a few other players (Babel, Reira, Keane, Crouch) whilst others were given unbridled favourtism (N'gog, Lucas, Kuyt, Insua). Attitudes of this nature should not exist at a top club. The manager's job is to put to the field the team with the best chance of winning games. At times I was dumbfounded by some of Rafa's selections... but hey this is now history... good luck to Rafa we move on. I have every confidence in Roy who, if last season is anything to go by, has a habit of signing players of genuine quality at reasonable prices and manages to get the best out of them. The fate of Gerrard et al is in his hands and I reckon his man management skills will keep them at the club.

i'm far from being a rafa basher but this 'though shalt not take the name of saint rafael of benitez in vain' attitude is getting a bit ridiculous now.

it still surprises me that people think football clubs and whats goes on inside them is all sweetness and light, things happen managers and players fall out, managers and players move on.

cos he gave half a season in the middle of a 4 year contract to the club he said he wouldnt leave no matter where we finish. then he leaves.

and the man that "caused" his departure isn't even here. how about giving us a shot under new management? showing what he's really made of and proving he should have been picked? no...much better this way for yossi.

He turned Yossi into a better player though, as he did with Crouch, Alonso, Carragher etc.

I was at the games Yossi mentions, he is right we all boo'd the decision to take him off, he was the only player that was causing Lyon trouble so he took him off? christ bring on the new guy.

what does it matter? Benitez is gone now so we don't have to worry about his man management skills.
