Once again it's all relative, yes he does have to make top 4, damn right he does, that's where we belong. So long as he's backed properly or gets to keep the squad he has then that should be the minimum expectation. Just because people are speculating (bearing in mind our current financial plight) that he might have less to work with (than Rafa), and that should that happen, getting back into the top 4 might be difficult, it doesn't mean that he will have it any easier than Rafa.

I don't think many fans have an 'anyone but Rafa' attitude BUT, and I think you lose sight of this over and over again, many fans had lost COMPLETE faith (just because you hadn't) in Rafa's ability to turn things around next season, particularly with the financial contraints. It's that complete lack of faith/belief that has led many to fancy a manager of Hodgson's comparitively low profile to be able to come in and do a better job.

We are singing from the same hymn sheet Scott.

You just sing it better than me  :D

I never said its a step forward, I said we needed a change. Roy Hodgson could well surprise us with a good season, I wont condemn the man before he has a chance. For us all its a wait and see policy.

If we appoint Woy it will simply confirm the expected, a compromise appointment by a comprmised club whilst awaiting new owners.

It will also mean next to no funds for exactly the same reasons and the team being on hold for another year.

Logically putting all the compromised issues together, we´ll be lucky if we make the top 6 next season.

What a sad situation.

And the last bit point exactly to an anyone but rafa attitude ! Rafa had turned round poor seasons before . People are saying 4th or even 3rd is their expectations - look at the teams above us and how they are going to strengthen beyond what they already have , do people really think getting rid of our previous manager will help us get back into the top 4 ?! City have already spent nearly 20 million on q defender

And how exactly are we going to do that then when we can't strengthen our squad and the other teams are going to spend considerable amounts , what happens when we don't get into 4th !

I don't know why so many a freaking out here, what were the other options?

One thing that is clear is he won't be offered a long term deal, not whilst the club are up for sale. It makes no sense, it would only burden new owners with release penalties. Max term he'll be offered is 2 years, with possible extensions if he meets targets, i.e. Champions League.

But it's scenarios that people don't think will happen because we have got rid of rafa or people just refuse to see that everything points to it getting worse and not better like some seem to think - people are talking about breaking into the top 4 like it should be possible because rafa has gone , I think IMO reality will hit them pretty sharpish soon enough when they realise rafa wasn't the problem and sacking him wasn't the solution to our problems - they are very valid and realistic what ifs ben . When you sack a manager you expect the replacement to be more successful - so is woy going to be more successful than rafa ?

I think the positives so far as Hodgson goes are this: (ps. not saying these are all my views but a summary of why some think he can come in and do a decent job.

- His recent success for Fulham
- He knows the English league and won't need that time to figure out the epl transfer market the way a foreign manager might need to.
- He's seen as a safe pair of hands
- He has a lot of experience in Europe (see his time with the Swiss national team, clubs in Europe and last year's UEFA cup run with Fulham)
- Whilst lacking in big club experience he spent a couple of years at Inter Milan where he is regarded to have done a good job.

if Roy gets us back to Top 4 or wins the league in his first season... it will be with Rafa's squad.
