New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Right , I don't think Roy Hodgon is the right manager for this club. I have nothing against him other than he seems to be a very nice man , a kindly uncle type , and unfortunately that is not what we need at the moment. We just do not need a yes man, we need a Rottweiler.
However if he is appointed, as many think he will be, he will have my full support and I will be praying that he succeeds.
He is however walking into this job with his eyes open wide and he can be under no illusions, no matter what they spin him.
The biggest thing is the message this sends out about our ambition , or lack of it ,  would  Man U , Chelsea , Arsenal or Spurs appoint him. I think not.
So Roy ,if it is you , I wish you all the luck in the world , I think you will need it.

One thing i am STILL happy about is that Rafa wont be manager this season.

My views exactly. As a person Rafa is a true gentleman but as a manager, he just got stale. We needed a change. Something had to give.

Roy Hodgson, who knows, he could well be an unlikely hero. He could well turn this team around and get us challenging again.

The main thing being, its a change, and could prove to be an interesting season.

What happens if it is a change for the worse ? What happens if we go further backwards ? Woy track record in big clubs doesn't point to turning things around - in fact the  opposite with the prime example being Blackburn - in the top 4 and in Europe then after woy arrives and a big spending spree - relegation . Sometimes change isn't always a good thing

Yeah I was only messing LeeJ. That yorkie joke I got from a yorkie who I worked in a hotel with, he was a good laugh.

Hard to say.

Depends on lots of things.

What players stay and go, what money the manager is given.

At this moment in time too much is up in the air to answer that reasonably.

4th place would be a good start.

Benny The Noon wrote:So basically you happy the previous manager is gone and that's all that matters ? So it's an anyone but Rafa attitude ? Is that not extremely short sighted ? What does hodgson have to do to bypass rafa when you consider that 5 out of six seasons we qualified for CL , does hodgson not have to at least get into the cl to save himself ?

Once again it's all relative, yes he does have to make top 4, damn right he does, that's where we belong. So long as he's backed properly or gets to keep the squad he has then that should be the minimum expectation. Just because people are speculating (bearing in mind our current financial plight) that he might have less to work with (than Rafa), and that should that happen, getting back into the top 4 might be difficult, it doesn't mean that he will have it any easier than Rafa.

I don't think many fans have an 'anyone but Rafa' attitude BUT, and I think you lose sight of this over and over again, many fans had lost COMPLETE faith (just because you hadn't) in Rafa's ability to turn things around next season, particularly with the financial contraints. It's that complete lack of faith/belief that has led many to fancy a manager of Hodgson's comparitively low profile to be able to come in and do a better job.

But what exactly points to this appointment being a step forward and woy turning things around apart from it's not rafa in charge ? Tell me what it is that says to you that things may well turn around ? What is the positives with the appointment of Hodgson or is the answer to all those simply - rafa is not manager anymore
