New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Rocky I know everything about the owners suggest that they want a lap dog but I'm not so sure about this one , I mean they want out , they want to sell. Surely Roy Hodgeson as manager would in the eyes of potential buyers lower the price as we would be that bigger a project without the likes of gerrard and torres? It just my take on events, I think they are waiting until after the WC to get someone on the same  level or potentially as good as Rafa ....otherwise I think Roy Hodges would already be at melwood? ???

Both turned the job down. Wenger a while back and Mourinho before they appointed Capello.

Potentially as good as Rafa? The value of the club was seriously devalued as a result of last seasons disappointing performance. Not sure that appointing Roy Hodgson would devalue it further. Could do a lot worse!
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)

dont get me wrong i hope your right and they choose kenny. I just think kenny would be a risky move for the owners. Especially how the fans reacted to rafas treatment

i think it is all about risks and rewards.
Roy Hog lead unfancied Fulhams into the Uefa cup finals.. so what are the chances that he will lead LFC to at least 4th place?
Minding that if Gerrard and Torres decided to stay one more season, lossing out of the champs league place next season will mean they are guaranteed to be sold off.

so this season is essential. Can we really afford to take the risk of Kenny?
My heart cried yes! but my head...maybe.

DD Deschamps record looks good but he distanced himself from the club now.

From the Times

Gary Jacob, Tony Evans
Updated 41 minutes ago
Roy Hodgson is expected to be in place as Liverpool manager on Thursday — and his first job will be to field formal offers for the club’s crown jewels, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
Real Madrid have tabled a £20 million take-it-or-leave-it bid for the England captain, whom Liverpool value at £35 million.
Torres, the Spain striker, would cost in excess of £60 million, but Chelsea and Real are aware that Liverpool’s precarious financial situation allows the opportunity to acquire their players at knockdown prices. There were suggestions last night that the London club’s initial offer could be as low as £25 million.
Hodgson, 62, who took Fulham to the Europa League final last season, will be consulted over any decision to sell, but can expect to receive only a small proportion of any money raised.
Liverpool are expected to have to pay Fulham about £2 million in compensation for the services of Hodgson, who would also have been a candidate to become the next England manager should the Football Association decide to part company with Fabio Capello.
The Italian said yesterday that the FA wanted two weeks to think about his position, but by then Hodgson will be installed at Anfield.
Liverpool needed to act quickly because only Sammy Lee remains from Rafael Benítez’s coaching staff. Benítez left Anfield on June 3 by mutual agreement with a £6 million payoff.
Hodgson can expect a muted reception from the fans, especially since his appointment will raise questions about the future of Kenny Dalglish.
The former manager and club icon was charged by Christian Purslow, the managing director, with finding a successor to Benítez. After assessing the candidates, the Scot put himself forward for the job, despite a longstanding friendship with Hodgson.
Internal politics may be the least of Hodgson’s problems at Anfield, however. Despite Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the co-owners, putting Liverpool up for sale in April, there is no buyer on the horizon. The club owe £351 million in loans, mainly to Royal Bank of Scotland, which is irritated with the Americans’ inability to sell.

How feckin depressing.

You lie its rafa's fault the players will leave because we have no CL footie, no doubt some gobsh!te will say that on here soon.

To say I am not amused is an understatement this is not longer Liverpool FC it is now Purslow FC and I want no part of it.
Gob & Sh!te over in the States dont have a clue who Hodgson is the only people on the board that know him are Purslow & Broughton, Roy will say fuck all about the firesale we will witness in the next few weeks, and that is the reason he is getting the job. None of this rubbish he does well with a small budget Purslow is giving him the job for selfish reasons and Roy will be on the receiving end of it all with him getting the blame and not the real culprits. And if he's coming here aware of the firesale then he is part of it in my eyes.

Well fuckin done Purslow FC, I will hold you responsible for bringing this club to its knees.

it is about time the Anfield chiefs showed they cared for their club’s most important asset. Liverpool fans know their football, and just for once, maybe their board should listen to them.

I don't think Hodgson's as bad an appointment as people are making out. These are dark days indeed but I wish him luck and he'll get my full support, lets face it he's going to need it.

First job is to convince Kenny to stay and work with him. Next is to try and keep as many players as possible, then to fight for as much transfer money as possible. Our squad is deficient in many areas so any money will have to be spread widely - basically Hodgson's going to have to win the lottery with the players he brings in for us not to drop further away from the top. Good luck, I hope you do well.

Mods - probably time to change the title of this thread, it's everywhere now including the BBC;

Roy Hodgson poised to become new Liverpool manager

Roy Hodgson is set to be appointed Liverpool's new manager by Thursday, BBC Sport understands.

The Reds were granted permission to speak to the 62-year-old two weeks ago by his current club Fulham.

Hodgson has also been linked with the England manager's job following the team's humiliating exit from the World Cup but Liverpool have acted quickly.

The Englishman will replace Rafael Benitez in the Anfield hot seat after the Spaniard left at the start of June.

but no world class players would come to us now even with Rafa Benitez in charge - we cant afford world class any more. Regardless of who the manager is

Also, as much as I would of liked Dalglish over Hodgson as manager. I'm not in the business of crucifying a manager before he has even stepped foot inside Anfield.

A little unfair.
