Im not big up on under water oil pipes but Im clued in enough to know that shoving tyres up a pipe is a shot to nothing especially when its blowing out at such a pressure....basically it will blow the tyres back out again...as it did!

The handling of this environmental catastrophe has been embarrassing and stinks to sh'it of capitalism. There has been more oil spilled here than in any tanker spillage. The difference is that that tankers tend to break up when they hit rocks closer to the coast, therefore more oil hits beaches faster...it can be contained.
This leak is out at sea further and is endless,it will leak and run into the sea until its stopped...I laugh at America,it fuc'ks about makes excuse after excuse and basically says BP you sort it out,its your pipe!
I wonder what would happen if the same were going on in some small breakaway Russian state with a pipe in the Baltic sea...Obama would be on TV lambasting them, telling them to sort it out......sort your own back yard out before you preach to the rest of the world you idiot..cant do that??then fuc'k up and let someone in that can!

Im disgusted at the effect this will have on the sea more than anything and all the beautiful things in it that most of mankind have yet to appreciate or respect!

Mmmmmm...It's a wonder that nobody thought about putting a series of valve systems on these pipes, so the flow could be cut off in the case of such a disaster.

Would that really have been that hard to do?

Yes its BP's oil field but the rig was owned and operated by Transocean, US company and it was Cameron another US company who manufactured the well shutdown valves that failed. Don't see too much Obama ranting about them.

I agree if its on Americas doorstep all hell breaks loose and someone has to pay and get severe penalties.

However when its a US company that is responsible for the deaths of upto 15,000 people at Bhopal India from a gas leak on a Union Carbide plant and when the US Occidental companies piper alpha rig blows up in the north sea and kills 167 people its treated with total indifference by the US. Who has been brought to justice for these attrocities, cant remember any US president ranting and raving about these.

There will be claims and counterclaims but ultimate responsibility for the disaster lies with BP, and that's why they've coming under heavy fire. I agree with your second point, though, and on Bhopal in particular. 26 years on and it still hasn't been fully cleaned up, and people continue to suffer.

Excellent post.

What about the careless attitude when Afghan or Pakistan wedding parties have been mistakenly blown up with 40+ deaths each time? 'Sorrryyyyyyyyy....'

'These people' are arrogant tw@ts and to be honest they are losing my sympathy and support vis-a-vis Iraq and Afghanistan on a day by day basis.

I agree Reg, there are many instances like this that the US just sweep under the carpet, remember the Iranian Jumbo that they shot down killing 290 innocent people

Right here is what I think.

Barack "I hate Britain and British pensioners" Obama clearly rejected foreign aid to help with the disaster, he is little more than a bandwagon jumper, he decides to roll up his sleeves and do a Mike Tyson after the American opinion grows with seething rage.

Obama is a total idiot and I think Britain should expel American diplomats from our shores, shut down their embassy, cancel our special relationship and withdraw from Afghanistan with immediate effect.

Yeah, Obama you f*cking Liberal, American piece of crabpaste, I hope you die m*ther :censored:er.
