YOSSI BENAYOUN TO JOIN CHELSEA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Tonights Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL insist they have received no approach for Yossi Benayoun – but the midfielder looks set to leave Anfield this summer.

Reports claiming the Reds have rejected a £4million bid for the Israeli from Chelsea are wide of the mark.

However, the Premier League champions are interested in the 30-year-old and Benayoun has made no secret of his desire to move to Stamford Bridge.

Benayoun, who signed a new four-year deal last summer, was mysteriously left out of Liverpool’s squad for the final game of the season at Hull City.

A switch to Russia initially looked on the cards with CSKA and Spartak Moscow vying for his services, while his agent recently revealed he could be tempted by a move to Roma.

However, Chelsea are now the favourites to secure his signature and manager Carlo Ancelotti is hoping a deal can be completed before the World Cup finals begin.

“There has been no approach from any club for Yossi Benayoun,” a Liverpool spokesman insisted today.

Benayoun, who cost £5million from West Ham three years ago, grew increasingly frustrated at Anfield last season.

He started 29 games but much to his displeasure he was substituted by manager Rafa Benitez on 22 occasions.

The former West Ham star believes Liverpool will let him go if Chelsea offer £6million

“Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool,” Benayoun said while on international duty with Israel.

“Chelsea will have to pay some £6m, but I believe that, in the end, I’ll be moving there.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have reiterated that Fernando Torres is not for sale at any price this summer.

Chairman Martin Broughton is reported to have said that it might be better for Torres to leave because it could take up to three years to transform the club’s fortunes.

His comments were allegedly made to Sky Sports News presenter Charlotte Jackson, who disclosed details of a conversation she had with Broughton.

“I saw Martin Broughton at Chelsea’s Player of the Year dinner and he refused to tell me that we weren’t going to sell Torres,” Jackson said.

“He said, ‘At the moment, he’s still on board, but it’s going to take three years to turn the club around, and at his age . . .’ ”

The club insist, however, that Broughton has already publicly made it clear that Torres will not be sold.

Managing director Christian Purslow and co-owner Tom Hicks have also attempted to reassure supporters.

They have promised that bids for the Spaniard won’t be entertained

So it seems Benni is on his way to the Big Smoke.... it also seems Ancelotti forever retains the capacity for surprise ???

£6m for him would be too low an asking price, he is worth £10m. I know he is 30, but then age hasn't bothered Chelsea in the past :

Shevchenko £30m : DOB 29/09/1976, signed 28/05/2006 aged 29, four months shy of his 30th birthday. High class player in his pomp, but then we're not expecting £30m for Benayoun..........................

Deco £8m : DOB 27/08/1977, signed 30/06/2008 aged 30, two months shy of his 31st birthday. For me this is the best comparison (so far), Benayoun has only just turned 30 so is in the same age bracket as both were when signed and Benayoun is in the same class bracket (IMHO) as Deco - with bells on because he has played in the Premiership, Deco hadn't

And talking of players around 30 or older, isn't Josie wanting to take fat frank to the bernie inn for £30m? If so, fat frank is 32 in a couple of weeks time and while he is (IMHO again) a class above Benayoun, he is two years older so that is a lot of money for a player who's never played club football abroad, is past 30 and I would guess is happy winning titles in London and might prefer to have another shot at the Champions League with Chelsea instead of hope for the best in Madrid.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

According to the papers, Yossi has aggreed terms with Chelsea and will sign in the coming days:

Bad move Yossi, you will regret it IMO, you won't be there more than a bench-warmer, me thinks.
Thanks for everything, anyway.

If this article is true true then clearly Ancelotti has lost his marbles. Cole out and Benayoun in? Maybe they are cutting the wage bill, its an odd one alright  ???

Bye Bye Yossi....

Yossi Benayoun has agreed terms on a four-year contract at Chelsea, according to reports in Israel.

The 30-year-old Liverpool midfielder will apparently undergo a medical in the coming days before completing a move he claimed was worth £6m.

Last month Benayoun said: "Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6million but I believe that in the end I'll be moving there."

Benayoun would be Chelsea's replacement for Joe Cole, who has been allowed to leave the club this summer after failing to agree terms on a new deal.

would have preffered if he stayed.. He added good depth to the squad and always like his attacking ability..  I feel 5 mill is a little less considering his talent. Probably the yanks will take the money and shove it right up thier a.r.s instead of injecting it into the transfer kitty. Fecking t*sser.

Not too upset to see Yossi going although I think we've been sold short on the price. No more than a squad player.

He's a squad player over the age of 30, yes in an ideal world we'd like to get more for him, but really how much do you expect to get for him?

As for where the money goes.  Well my guess is that it goes wherever the Rafa payout money came from.  So here we sit having sold a player yet are in the red by a million.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Fairly gutted by this TBH. Quality player Yossi Benayoun, intelligent and able to make things happen. He scored some important goals as well, especially in 08-09 and was our best LM by far (who are we left with now - Riera and Babel?? ffs). He was very adaptable as well, did well at RM and in the hole if needed. Very sorry he's gone and he'll be missed.

We really are in the s'hit now lads.

We're taking 'reports from Israel' as fact now are we?

Sky would be all over this if it was confirmed.
