Liverpool manager-who you think will be in charge - By the first game of the season

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

A quote from Nanny: In the New Manager thread -

"weres that Dundalk when you need him ,he could of done a thread and set it up with everyones name and who they think is gonna be our manager ,i dont know how you do it , i dont know how you do nothin ha ha"

This is not about who you WANT to be our new manager, but,
WHO YOU THINK WILL BE IN CHARGE BY THE 1st GAME OF THE SEASON

You can just post up a name if you want - it'll be interesting to see the odds.

I'm going to see what odds you get for King Kenny

Racing Post:

Trio head race to replace Rafa at Liverpool

BOOKMAKERS say it’s a three-horse race for the Liverpool hotseat following the news of Rafa Benitez’s departure on Thursday.

Long-time contender Martin O’Neill still heads the market along with Kop legend Kenny Dalglish, both at 7-2, whileFulham’s Roy Hodgson is close behind at 9-2, and it’s 12-1 bar those three.

Layers reported that early money was for Dalglish making a return to the managerial role which he occupied from 1985 to 1981, but several firms cut O’Neill’s price later in the day.

Bet365 were among those reporting a flow of bets for the Aston Villa boss and they were as short as 5-4 by the evening.

The picture is clouded byreports that Liverpool may opt to appoint a short-term manager while the sale of the club is under way.

Benitez’s tenure under the club’s American owners was acrimonious  from the start and he had seemed almost certain to leave the post on a number of occasions during his six years at Anfield.

That made the sudden end to the saga once a severance package was on the table slightly surprising and assistant manager Sammy Lee is believed to have been put in charge of the team for the moment.

Former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson told the BBC: “I would have thought Kenny would be heavily involved and quite rightly so, maybe not just in choosing the manager but holding the fort in the meantime.”

Hills go 7-4 that he is given some kind of temporary role and that includes the possibility that he links up with someone else in the job.

Coral spokesman David Stevens said: “Punters should be aware that our market refers to the next permanent Liverpool manager, so if Dalglish takes the role in an interim capacity, the market would remain open.”

Dalglish is an academy ambassador at the club and is to assist managing director Christian Purslow in identifying a successor, the club said on Thursday, but no timescale has been put on when an appointment would be made.

Benitez’s departure followed a disappointing season for the Reds, and they are odds-on to miss out on a Premier League  top-four finish again next term, while Bet365 offer 4-11 that they draw another trophy blank.

Betfred offer a juicy 9-4 that Liverpool finish in the Champions League places next season.

Benitez is expected to step into the Inter hotseat and succeed his long-term rival Jose Mourinhoat the helm of the Italian club.

News of the Spaniard’s departure has only heightened speculation about the future of the club’s key players, and in particular their star names Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, who have both been linked with big-money summer moves.

Hills go 5-6 about each man staying or going, while the firm offer just 10-11 that at least one of them has left by September 1.

I thought you meant by start of the season Nan.

Most bookies (I think) do "Manager in charge by start of season".

Kenny is a good bet at 7/2 !!

It's bit of a unique situation really.

Because, Kenny is making the appointment (or partially he is) AND he is in the running to take over
as caretaker manager if there is no appointment.

If Martin O'Neill doesnt want the job it leaves one question:

Does Kenny think he can do a better job than Roy Hodgson?

Interesting.

Hope not, if ever there was a manager that will allow the owners to do what they want to the club without making a fuss it is him.  A yes man with no moral fiber!

I'll have a punt on Kenny as I don't think we'll have new owners by then. Put me down for a tenner @ 7-2.

33-1 with Bill Hills.

I don't think Kenny will pick him though.

Odds are:

13/8 Roy Hodgson
3/1 Martin O'Neill
4/1 Kenny Dalglish
9/1 Sven Goran Eriksson
12/1 Harry Redknapp
14/1 Jurgen Klinsmann
14/1 Mark Hughes
14/1 Alex McLeish
16/1 Frank Rijkaard
16/1 Guus Hiddink
16/1 Louis Van Gaal
20/1 Manuel Pellegrini
20/1 Slaven Bilic
25/1 Marcello Lippi
25/1 Sammy Lee
33/1 Marco Van Basten
33/1 Felipe Scolari
33/1 Michael Laudrup
