RAFA BENITEZ LEAVES LIVERPOOL - Official Thread, includes merged threads

Well at least Pepe is staying put.

"Something like this is always sad," said Reina. "Rafa is the one who has always trusted me. I can only give my utmost gratitude for all that he's done for me. I wish him the very best."

Reina committed his future to Liverpool earlier this year, and reiterated his desire to stay at Anfield despite the managerial upheaval.

"This changes nothing," said Reina when asked about his own situation. "I still have a six-year contract with Liverpool."

Just throwing this out there.
There is a supposed ITK on another forum who spoke about Rafa's severance package a couple of weeks ago and he got it right. He has taken a lot of flak off loads of others but he keeps coming back with stuff. This is the latest. Probably more :censored: but let's see.

"The board's roles haven't changed, Purslow is still liaising with the known investors and Broughton is there a part-time figurehead - to close any deals. However, as Chairman he had to be involved with Rafa leaving, signing the statement etc.

Hicks and Gillett don't have anything to do with the club, yes they 'own' it but the bank owns them! They are effectively locked out, so no, there can't be a fire sale of our best players. Unless, the players want to leave that is.

Purslow, is also involved with looking for a new manager, in addition to liaising with the investors. Don't be fooled though, he and Kenny aren't looking too hard! They know who's coming in... This has been highly planned. Purslow, is really keeping the sponsors calm and Ayre is doing his bit too.

The investors (both of them) wanted Rafa out before they come in. So the slate is clean and they will avoid any bad press. Yes, it was acceptable to all the investors that Rafa left.

The club will be sold in a 'range' between £450 and £590m. That's a huge variance but the bottom figure is agreed by RBS and Barclays as the 'actual' value of the club. Although both expect the 2 investors to cap out at the £590. Sadly for Hicks and Gillett, they will not get anywhere near £800m.

It's really fluid and really exciting and things are all in hand. You'd be rather daft to think this hasn't been quite carefully planned! "

It's hard to read stuff like this coz you can't help but cling on to it like some love sick fool. I can't actually comprehend how happy it would make me if it turned out to be even half true.

I think they waited until the players went away.
I do believe that SG, Torres and Beni had come to end of their tethers under Rafa and wanted away if he stayed.
Rafa will be long gone and a new man will be in charge when they get back.
I'm sure the new mans already in place and will be unveiled within the week, this will hopefully satisfy SG and Torres.
I think Masch will be our only main player to leave.
But 30ml will be a nice starter for ten for the new man

some on here have forgot that Rafa gave us great time awell.
He might not have been the man to win us the prem but he is still the best cl manager there is.
he was also great in one off games, he would study the other team again and again and would work out every mover they were going to make.

stop slaging the guy off, he gave us of 5th and made history for this club and for football.
yes the players had a big part to play that night but Rafa made the subs that changed the game.

One thing above all though, we NEEDED a change. Yes the owners would have been a good start, but they have put the club up for sale, and now all anyone can do is just wait. They will be gone soon, it just seems like each day they are here is a lifetime for the supporters.

Many people are saying he was released because of one bad season. It isnt. It has gradually built up, last season was the final straw. His constant tinkering with the team tactics and players. His treatment of players (whether they are good for the club or not) helped his decline. Rafas stubborness is legendary, and it is that which has cost him. It really did come down to Rafas way or the highway. And in the end, well, rafas way didnt work. We became predictable, boring and just clueless when it came to breaking down the opposition. Or in games when we were on top but drawing constantly the substitution of our best attacking players just frustrated everybody and then we knew he was happy with the draw. So so many games we could have won, so many points we could have had, only to revert back to the "must not lose" mentality.

Look at our bench, as many people have, and are pointing out the positions that need to be sorted, well we had the players for them positions but rafa in his frustrating stubborness thought otherwise.

And so comes his last season. Yes we have had bad luck, and yes we have had injuries but in the end it wasnt them reasons that cost us, it was the constant "must not lose" tactics of rafa that cost the confidence of everyone around him.

Which is a massive shame as the season before when we finished second, after a poor start, it seemed like he had seen the light, and went for attack, attack, attack. And it paid off. Unfortunately though, once his contract was sorted, it was back to rafas best for the next season.

It is sad that he is gone, Rafa is a gentleman. You could take this poem and apply many lines of it to rafa. However he did make mistakes, and in this high profile league, he made one mistake too many.

Come on Ben... people saying they were going to quit supporting the club because of 1 person potentially still being around? I thought the club was bigger that any individual. Comments like that are only there to wind people up.

i see it the other way.
people moaning that our (imo poor manager) was struggling but are still backing him ?

You explain to me ?
