Up to about 10 years ago the Liverpool/Everton rivalry was largely good natured banter.

Looking at Everton's opponents so far only Arsenal (Lost) and Man U (drew) would be considered top half sides so it's hardly surprising they have fared so well.

With an ageing and rooney-less squad they will be happy to preserve premier league status and look to invest the proceeds from the Rooney Sale next season or whenever the next instalment is due :p

Right on. There was a thread that questioned why the recent Mersey Derbies have been so subdued. Admittedly,  Merseyside isn't a "happening" place where footballing honours are concerned. But with both teams riding on better successes, the healthy rivalry should returned.

All my family are evertonians :glare:  But I hope they succeed this year I dont like them but I think shrek sh#t on them bad style and they have a point to prove :;):
Moyes is a great manager considering the players hes got, but a few injuries and they will be back down the table.
Im not holding my breath on this one but I hope they finish in top ten this season.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

everton have done extremely well so far considering they got battered 4-1 by arsenal on the opening day. the last time they won 5 on the bounce i think they won the league. :D

however i put it down to david moyes. i think he is a brilliant manager. but even he will know that it would be unrealistic for everton to hold onto a european place with the limited squad they've got.

Credit where credit is due: David Moyes has done a fantastic job at Everton.

They had so much cr.ap during the summer with Rooney and the board room fighting it looked like Moyes was on a hiding to nothing, but he has done a fantastic job.

It won't last forever, but Everton are in with a shout of a 8 or 9th place finish this season, which is remarkable given what has happened to them over the summer.

I was watching the match yesterday in a club full of Evertonians while I was wearing my yellow Liverpool away shirt.  I couldn't resist.

At the final whistle, upon seeing the league table, I overheard one cheeky chappie remark:

"Yeah, the big three have definitely started pulling away haven't they?"

Made me laugh!!! :D  :D
