From liverpoolfc.tv

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed.

LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.''

Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Just saw that...
What a shameful day in the history of this club...

Why?

Did you think he'd be here for the rest of his life?

Managers get fired/pushed to leave - that's football.

:wwww  :wwww

Are you serious?

We've sacked our manager, a manager who had lost the players trust in some peoples eyes...

And you're talking about stopping supporting the club!!!

maybe it was time for him to move on... but not like this... last season's poor performance was not just down on him and he's been made a scapegoat. And the way he was treated by the club these few weeks is nothing short of disgraceful. All the stories leaked to the media supposedly by Purslow. I can't believe how he's been treated by the board...

Sorry but how was he supposed to move on then?? This was a long time coming and wasn't a shock like Mark Hughes at Citeh, now that really was badly handled.

Look managers earn a shed load of money, plus get compensation packages if they are :censored: so don't feel too bad for Rafa, he'll move on to some other club and LFC will also move on.

I firmly believe that things will now get better.

In any case we all have to move on.

BTW I would like to say thanks to Rafa for Istanbul and also for the FA Cup, it hasn't all been bad but last season was the final straw for me so I think he had to go.

we still got plenty of nails mate, its not the end of the club... we have to look at this logically

1: sacking Rafa costs the club severance

2: the club not got much money

3: the club is run by money grabbing kunts

4: they ain't stupid

5: 1-4 must mean something is in the works
