The circumstances are not in our favour.
He isn't english, 30 years, not much left on contract
and the player have expressed a desire to leave. Not to mention we(or the vermin) might need the money.

Agreed. At £8m we would have a pretty good deal, IMO. Assuming of course that money would be made available for reinvestment and spent well. Don't think it'll happen though as I can't see Chelsea going for a player who frankly would end up on the bench 90% of the time and probably wouldn't improve upon the options they already have sat there.

Why is that a good deal? He scores goals and changes matches for us, what we gonna do with 8 million?

It's just another player whos been played badly by hismanager who wants to leave

I think £8m is fair value for a decent performer who has just turned 30. He's good but feck me if you think he's worth much more than £8m then you're 'avin a laff. What to do with £8m? Put it towards signing a better player - Van der Vaart for instance or Steven Ireland if you prefer. If we have to mend a broken squad and this is the only way, let's do it.

Just turned, won't be 31 until the end of next season and the only reason we should turn down anything less than £8m is because he's worth more than that to us as a player if he ran out his contract.

£8m for a player who is 30, can be a match winner but can also be frustrating isn't bad. The other reason not to accept less than £8m is because we'd end up spending similar amounts on a replacement, probably not as good and nearly as old. Good old Rafa!

PLAYERS 30+ AUGUST 2010

Carragher 32
Kyrgiakos 31
Aurelio 30 (31 in September)
Benayoun 30
Gerrard 30 (next week)
Kuyt 30 (July)

PLAYERS 24-29 AUGUST 2010

Rodriguez 29
Riera 28
Reina 28 (August 31st)
Cavalieri 27
Degen 27
Torres 26
Mascherano 26
Aquilani 26 (July)
Johnson 26 (August)
Agger 25 (26 in December)
Skrtel 25 (26 in December)
El Zhar 24 (August)

PLAYERS 23 AND UNDER AUGUST 2010

Babel 23 (24 in December)
Lucas 23
Plessis 22
Insua 21
N'Gog 21

Not exactly bags of young potential stars, a fair number of players who should be near their prime, but that includes Degen, Cavalieri, Riera, Skrtel and El Zhar among the 12. Six will be the wrong side of 30 and frankly the collection 23 and under is disappointing - unless of course Wilson and Shelvey prove superstars, I'm not holding my breath. The average age of that lot is 26.70, will be 27 by August. Supposedly the mancs is an ageing team, their average is much the same as our's, while Chelsea's pensioners are only a couple of years older on average
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I think we should concentrate on buying good players. Not young ones or old ones or ones that are tall or small or don't like playing on Mondays, just the good ones will do thanks.

Where's the credible link to say Benny actually wants to go ? To me this all looks like spurious rumour (wouldn't be surprised if lakes10 was behind it all :p  )

NANNY RED wrote:Chelsea eye another Double as Blues ready bid for Liverpool duo Yossi Benayoun and Javier Mascherano

Chelsea are weighing up a double move for Liverpool's Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun.

The Double winners realise Liverpool are vulnerable to offers and have earmarked the duo to reinforce their ageing squad with Michael Ballack and Joe Cole expected to leave.

Liverpool do not want to sell to Chelsea but if the financial offer is bold enough they may have little choice with Rafa Benitez's budget almost non-existent.

Mascherano has shelved talks on a new contract while Benayoun is hoping to discuss a move to Stamford Bridge for around £6m this week.

Benayoun, 30, said: 'Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6m but I believe that in the end I'll be moving there.'

???  ???

the only way i'd consider selling him to chelsea would be if we get joe cole in return.

they have no say on where cole goes as he is a free man soon and can go where he likes, and it's looking to be spuds but we shall see

Is this quote for real? Cheeky fecking git!

just to make a few things clear...
In Israeli press, I have never seen a quote of Benayoun that says that he wants to leave.
He allways says that he is happy at the club, and would like to stay at liverpool
for the rest of his carear.
So I really can't understand were all the stupid rumors are coming from. Not sure that
those who quote him, even spoke to him.
I think that he was one of our best players in the last 3 years, and would hate to see him go.
Don't forget that he had much better offers from Westham at the time, but prefferd to come to Liverpool for less money. Did anyone really ever saw or heard Benny saying that he wants out of the club?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/footbal....ontract

The Israeli anticipates the completion of his move to Stamford Bridge over the next few days having indicated last week while on international duty that Chelsea were keen to sign him. "Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool," he said. "Chelsea will have to pay some £6m, but I believe that, in the end, I'll be moving there."

His market value probably is around £6M - but we shouldn't be selling him for less than £15-20M because that's how much rafa would need to find an adequate replacement.
we've only won it 5 times
