It's a very happy day for me," said Alonso. "It's an important step in my career to come to a club like Real Madrid.

"I'm very happy to be part of this club and I was very excited for this day to arrive.

"It's the best opportunity for me to develop as a footballer."

These 3 sentences made me dissapointed.
What Important step? There is no real step after LFC but down or sideways at best :(

Happy to be part of one of the worst clubs there is?
RM is known for being anything close to honest and a club with integrity.

And the last one hurts the most.
RM the best opportunity to develop?
Surely he must be joking?

Would be much better if he said he was getting married and his missus wanted to go back and raise the kids in Spain and that it was the right time to do it now.

Adios Alonso (a poem by Craig McDonald)

Its the end of the road my friend
Your time in a red shirt is at an end
Your time at Anfield is up
Thanks for helping us win our 5th European Cup
You were our Spanish mid field maestro
all our fans will be sad to see you go
from the bottom of all our hearts
Goodbye Xabi Alonso

From a red legend to a white warrior
From Liverpool to Real Madrid
From England to Spain
Thanks for helping Gerrard, Carragher and The Kid
Instead of working with Gerrard
You’ll be working With Ronaldo
So once again from all Liverpool fans
Adios Xabi Alonso

Remember our teams motto
You’ll Never Walk Alone
You belong at Anfield
You’ll always be welcome home
You have brought joy to our fans
With the 2 own half goals against Luton and Newcastle
You and Gerrard made the midfield
And stoped anyone who gave you hassle
All our fans loved you
None of us wanted you to go
But we couldn’t stop you so all thats left to say is
ADIOS AMIGO

TBH, I don't blame him for leaving. He has been at LFC for 5 years but he is Spanish and has the opportunity to go home and play for one of the top two clubs in Spain, good luck to him. If he had stayed the opportunity might have passed him by.
Thanks for the service over the years Xabi, good luck

Because to me this is the biggest club in the world so when someone says they are leaving for a 'challange' it's as if they are saying Liverpool is not big enough for them any more. I just gets under my skin that's all. But I don't really want to dwell on it too much. Just glad we announced the Aquilani deal when we did.

the prob is bav mate the guy is spanish so for them Madrid and Barce are the pinacle of spanish football with madrid being top and prob the most famous club in the world and most illustrious (despite how they go about buying players) , so for a spanish player it is the ultimate club to play at

True but I don't think Torres would have the same feelings. I see your point though.

Now Torres is an Athletico player and fan at heart mate so for him if it was another spanish club it would be Barcelona - bit like rooney going to Man Utd

It wasnt nice seeing him on SSN this morning meeting all his new team mates. Just seemed a bit sureal.
Its sad to see him go but to be fair to him he gave us 5 years of his career.
Thats alot of time for someone to live in a different country.

I went to work abroad for the summer about 8 years ago...i loved it but was made up to get back home.
I think people can underestimate how much you miss home.

Its a shame he wont be here this season...when we end our long wait for the title, but like many others i am sure he will be made up when he sees Stevie lift the trophy at the end of the season.

If you see the bald cúnt behind Alonso, the one looking at the floor, in Liverpool city, twát him. He's the fúcking agent.

not saying they are thou mate but i expect xabi didnt grow up hating real like torres did with them being city rivals . The transfer is on parallel to rooneys to man utd , for him the top club to play for in his home country is man utd cause he hates liverpool with a passion . Im pretty sure xabi wont hate madrid and sees them as the top team in his own country and as much as we hate it they are the most successful and prestigeous club in the world and their history is up there with the best .
